Hi Donna,

I was hoping you'd post about this on ! I say " congratulations " again! I

know how hard you've been working for this, and I know the goals you set. What a

great example of *** living life *** to the fullest in a most positive way,

despite CMT!

Hey Donna, this is a wonderful accomplishment and congratulations. You are an

inspiration to me and my CMT. The fact that you could run 10K alone is a great

accomplishment. I did a 5km walk and was very proud of myself and my 8 and 10

year who have CMT. They did it too. I was in pain for a week or so after but

it was well worth it to prove to myself and my kids that we can deal with this

disease.

I know we have talked other times and you helped me with my biking. Getting me

to sit up higher as to not be so hard and I thank you again for that. Know I

will want to work up to 40K. :-)

Congrats again Donna, on your Triathlon and your ability to spread the word

about CMT.

My Triathlon Accomplishment

I wanted to share the story of my triathlon accomplishment with the

list.

As many people know I have very mild CMT symptoms compared with some.

However, I am impacted by CMT.

I have chosen to try to manage CMT's impact on my life by being as

strong and as fit as I can be, and have chosen triathlon as the

vehicle to help me to do that. I have a great support structure and

have chronicled my journey on my blog.

My aspiration since doing my first triathlon in 2007 has been to do

the Olympic distance. To swim 1500meters, bike 40 kilometers, and run

(yes, run) 10 kilometers.

Learning to run has been hard and fraught with complicated times. I

also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, or hyperflexibility, and this has

make learning to run in a stable and correct way super important.

Managing EDS with CMT is also a challenge.

I have chosen since 2009 to direct my blog, and fundraising, to CMT

awareness and the CMTA STAR initiative. I have used social media

platforms to connect with other athletes and to, in my own small way,

get the word out about CMT.

On Sunday I completed my first Olympic distance triathlon. I have

never been nor will I ever be the fastest kid on the course - and

trust me at this level of activity there are some really speedy people

out there. But I can be the person who smiles the most (or at least

tied with that title, which I think is currently held by either top

amateur triathlete Sonja Wieck http://gosonja.com or pro triathlete

Bree Wee http://breeweehawaii.blogspot.com). I smiled a lot on Sunday

and am really proud that I did this triathlon and did it while having

and for CMT.

Please feel free to take a look at my site, or my blog with my race

report. http://blog.myfitnessyear.com or www.myfitnessyear.com

I try to reply to emails sent to me directly with questions or

comments, but I must admit I am a victim of too much email. My

apologies for any delay.

Remember, CMT impacts us all so differently. No matter what we can

do, I am always going to be the one that pushes the boundaries and

tries to do more than people tell me is possible. I value positive

feedback and response, and I appreciate respect that not everyone will

do or want to do what I do. But I thought I would share.

Thanks and have a super day. I'm still glowing from Sunday and wanted

to share a bit of that with you all.

Donna from London
