Guest guest Posted June 6, 2010 Report Share Posted June 6, 2010 Yes, Dawn, if there is already * atrophy * in the peroneal muscle then the surgery mentioned in the article probably wouldn't help. But it may in fact strengthen the surrounding muscles and delay or perhaps stop further atrophy. Furthermore, not all people with CMT have CMT 1A and myelin fraying. People like myself who have CMT 2, may not have peroneal muscle atrophy, in addition to reinnervation and collateral sprouting. Is is very important to remember that even though we all have " CMT " the different kinds and types and mutations we have are all different. Therefore we * are all different * in how CMT expresses itself. There are different types of surgery for footdrop and each person must know their surgeon's skills and advice to ensure the correct procedure.
