Navigating the Autism Maze. When: Sunday, May 3, 2009, 1:00 p.m. Where: Baker Hall, Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. http://www.lehigh.edu/education/news_events/events/dls_2008_autism.html Five nationally renowned autism spectrum experts will each provide an overview regarding their area of expertise. The afternoon presentation will be moderated by Lehigh's Dr. Bambara, professor of special education. The areas of expertise that will be covered include: social skills, school inclusion, communication, social, and academic development, and neurodevelopmental developments. This group of panelists has never been together before and presents a rare opportunity to look at autism from a multiple of perspectives leading to a better understanding of the condition as a whole. A Q & A session will be held at the end of the presentation. Panelists include: .. Jed Baker, Ph.D. is a behavioral consultant for several New Jersey School systems, where he provides social skills training for students with pervasive developmental disorders and learning disabilities. .. a Kluth, Ph.D. is a consultant, teacher, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners. .. Lynn Koegel, Ph.D. is the clinical director of autism services in the UCSB Koegel Autism Center, has developed programs to improve communication in children with autism, including the development of first words, development of grammatical structures, and pragmatics. .. Koegel, Ph.D. is an international authority in autism, specializing in language intervention, family support, and school integration. He is the Director of the UCSB Koegel Autism Center, a professor of clinical psychology, and a professor of special education. .. Joyce E. Mauk, M.D., serves as President/CEO/Medical Director of the Child Study Center. She is a neurodevelopmental pediatrician who has done extensive research on autism spectrum disorders, sychopharmacology and behavioral disorders.
