Guest guest
Hi, This is , mom to who is now 15. It's been a long time since I posted. We got rid of all of 's extra labels and changed it over to PDD, NOS in April. He got that from his service agency-not KKI. Anyway, that is the best thing we have done for him and we should have done it years ago. Anyway, one of 's most challenging behaviors is perseveration - and it's almost always on a book (Green Eggs and Ham). We can be anywhere and he gets the thought and sticks to it until he gets the book. Last night, we were stuck on an interstate outside of Baltimore for 5 1/2 hours due to icy roads. He must have asked for the book a thousand times. When we finally got to our local Walmart around midnight, they were out of them and he was content getting a new video. This morning, he is watching the movie for the third time and now is asking for the book. He is content with tearing up a large magazine for now (he always tears the book up after he goes through the pages once or twice-then he carries the pages around). I know he will start asking for the book again soon. He use to hit me after asking for the book a few times - last night he only hit (and not hard) me once. So in that regard, progress has been made. My son in law took him outside on the road to show him how icy it was and also to see the line of vehicles that were stranded behind and in front of us. He continued to ask for the book. Any tips for handling this behavior would be greatly appreciated.
