Guest guest
The chances are pretty good that they will fit IF you take out the insoles. We have good luck with the orthotics fitting inside of skate boarding shoes. Etnies are preferred by my son.
Guest guest
Lori, I can't recall how old your son is, but in my experience with orthotics I by shoes one size larger and one width wider. When I mean " orthotics " I mean custom molded under-the-foot heel/arch/toe support. Nothing up the leg. So my " orthotics " DO take up room in shoes. Have you looked at the kids New Balance line? Have you asked the orthotist what shoes He/She recommends? Some orthotists sell shoes to go with orthotics. Have you got a New Balance Procare Fit Store near you? These stores are great - they take the 'problem' and find a 'solution' in a shoe. They also have shoes by Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine. This is the store here http://stores.newbalance.com/losangeles/procare.aspx Gretchen >

Guest guest
We have found that most of the " skater " type sneakers work well for my daughter with her AFOs. They are typically a bit wider than most other shoes. We take the stock insole out & her AFO slips in pretty easily. We usually buy one size up from what she would otherwise wear. Good luck! > >
Guest guest
Some of the problem could be in how the orthotics are made. Some orthotists used older materials that are way too thick. They also beef them up way too much. The end result is the orthotic gets so large that it's hard to find shoes to wear. My orthotist uses kevlar and graphite that is thinner and stronger. It's also lighter. If your son's orthotics are made out of a milky white plastic chances are its way too thick and that's the problem. Is it just an orthotic that goes in the shoe or is it AFOs. Some orthotists have the ankle joints way too thick and that creates a problem too. There are good orthotics and bad orthotics. I've had both. My orthotist says the best brace or orthotic is the least possible brace that works. Also maybe the foot plate needs to be cut down. Some orthotists have no idea how an orthotic feels or works in a shoe. Maybe the shoes are too short he will prob need a bigger size with orthotics. Shoes with insoles that come out work best. Nike, Sketchers, and skater shoes all seem to work the best. Hope this helps. Bob > > > >
Guest guest
Lori, We have had a lot of luck buying New Balance shoes for Zack and myself at Famous Footware. If you find a pair you like and they do not have your size (and it is available) they will order and send it to your house and no extra charge. We need to find the time to make the trip to one for back-to-school. We are on their mailing list, and right now is their buy-one-get-one half-price sale. I'll buy two pairs just for myself when I find the ones I like the most. Same for Zack. Matt has wide feet, so it helps finding shoes for him there too. Guest guest
Hi, Have you tried VANS? My two children have worn these throughout their teenage years. In fact our son Austin does not do up his laces like most young ones. Eilish >
Guest guest
I just bought a shoe-stretcher and am amazed to find that it gives my leather shoes the extra width that I need. Shoes that were too tight, now fit like a glove. ECSTATIC about this!
Guest guest
I agree, I only buy New Balance for the kids and me. I will fit them in the store and then buy them online. I go to shoebuy.com. Free shipping and and free return shipping. The best part is they usually have the width that the kids need and I can usually find a coupon to use as well. They have 20 dollars off of 125 order now. I can forward to you if you want just let me know. Thanks Re: finding shoes for my son I have great luck with the New balance brand.
