Guest guest
Hi Has anyone with relatively mild foot drop had any experience they could share with wearing the Nike Free shoes -- designed to mimic barefoot walking? I have relatively new AFOs and have a sense that a more pliable shoe may be good for me. Thanks Sam
Guest guest
I don't have footdrop and walk barefoot fine. My orthopedist and orthotist explained why these " barefoot walking " shoes are such a big deal - it's called Trend. Another orthopedist, also very familiar with CMT, has told me that the barefoot walking shoes are hype and people with CMT must be very careful about purchasing and causing foot problems. Your orthotist should work with you to find the right shoe, with the right last, right stability, pronation/overpronation, right motion control, etc. that will work with your AFOs. This is what my orthotist did with me for my orthotics. I have tried the MBT shoes and they've been collecting dust now for quite awhile. If you want to walk barefoot, then go for it. If you want a supportive shoe, shop around and compare Avia, , New Balance. Remember too, that " running shoes " don't last as long as " walking shoes " or " cross trainers " . I also swap out my shoes sometimes during the day depending on what I'm doing. Gretchen
Guest guest
I don't have a lot of foot drop but my right ankle turns in and the left was fused last year. I walk better barefoot and tried these shoes but couldn't keep them on my feet. I don't see how they could help foot drop, but if a store will let you return them after trying them at home then why not try. I'd be careful though as they give virtually no lateral support. Guest guest
I love Nike. I have been wearing them forever it seems. I have something very similar to the Nike Free. It's a Jane. I have foot drop but these shoes weigh very little so I have minimal problems. Well minimal for me anyway. I am going to try the Nike Free.
