Guest guest
I joined a yahoo support group for Miralax. Interesting, cause there are all these side effects from it, and Angie never went that regularly while on it, and now she's backed up yet again. She was eating lots of stuff, now its back to puree, and I don't know, its just so hard. I just hate it sometimes. My son, 3, has issues going too. I just wish they'd poop normally! Maybe its the pregnancy, maybe its cause we're doing our thanksgiving today, we're going to relative thursday and we want leftovers, and I've been baking since 8am, but, I am just having a bad day! Needed to vent.
Guest guest
We just started Fibersure - about 1-2 tsp a day for my son who is 38 lbs. It really has helped him be more regular, and so far, no Miralax needed. I'm sure we will need it occasionally, but this is much, much better. Fibersure is flavorless and dissolves easily, but it's pricey. I think it's worth it for what we're getting from it. Guest guest
Oh yes, miralax... when I went to 's ped last year AFTER HIM BEING ON A HIGH DOSE OF IT FOR 5 YEARS!!! once I found out what it was and how I really thought he was absorbing it due to his leaky gut - the doc of course thought I was crazy. I think that was the turning point for our relationship - I don't believe he respects me anymore...me and my crazy bio approach thoughts! Needless to say I stopped the miralax right away after finding out what it was. Sure wish I would have figured that out a long time ago.... anyway. I went to just a magnesium citrate supplement but I couldn't get it in him. If he liked orange juice it would have been a perfect vehicle for it. Finally I found something called Clear Fiber - it's GF, clear and perfect! We are pooping pretty regular here now. Course it doesn't help that constipation could cause to throw a clot! Perfect! I mix the clear fiber with a little warm water to get it to disolve then add organic apple juice, stir, add some ice, and voila - your drink is ready Young Squire! I can't believe docs won't give you this information! Miralax... my arch enemy! Guest guest
I wonder if Lactulose is any safer. was on that for 2 years. It works great and is a very sweet liquid so I could just add it to milk. We haven't needed it for the past year (hoping not to jinx myself here) ever since took Clindamyicin for an infected boil. It gave him diarrhea which cleaned him out and he hasn't had a problem since. But I still keep refilling the Lactulose just in case. Does anyone else use it? We tried Miralax and it was horrible! Guest guest
Jayne, Terry etc. We don't really need to use anything for on a continuous basis as she's not irregular anymore. We used to use prunes when she was very little, then magnesium for a long time; since her diet's been working there's no problem. But...I wonder if any of these other options can be used for colonoscopy prep? I would really check into this for the next time. There's gotta be something. Have you done colonoscopies with your kids? You have to use an entire botle of Miralax...255 grams. I might as well have taken her to the nearest truckstop and had her pumped full of antifreeze. Blecccchhhhhh. Sherry I wonder if Lactulose is any safer. was on that for 2 years. It works great and is a very sweet liquid so I could just add it to milk. Guest guest
Okay, you guys are scaring me! Quinn has been on Miralax for at least 3 years now :-( He gets it everyday! It never occurred to me it could be hurting him. Jayne, did you see an improvement in 's behaviors or development after taking him off of it? We are not GF so could I just use any fiber supplement instead? I used to grind up Fiber cereal and put it in his oatmeal when he was really young, but that got difficult and didn't work great. Guest guest
Amy - I have not been commenting on the Miralax conversation, but i have noticed a difference in my son who is 4 yrs old. He had been on Miralax since he was 6 months old!! We took him off of it about 9 months ago. This summer we went on vacation and he got constipated and none of the natural things were working. We just did a " clean out " which was a cap full of Miralax every hour for three hours and he was miserable for 3 days. Yes, it worked and he pooped but I'm not sure it was worth it. Next time we go on vacation we are going to give him 1/2 teaspoon of mineral oil everyday to prevent. Guest guest
I haven't seen all these posts, but regular Fibersure in 's diet (it is a powder and dissolves and is tasteless) has helped with constipation a lot. When that won't do it, we use Miralax, but we've only had to about 3 times in the last several months since we started Fibersure. Beth Quoting cynthiamiltonburns : > Amy it is not the point of gf/cf. Guest guest
It seems that it is the high doses of Miralax might be causing the extreme elimination side effects. Why not use a Fleet enema to clean the intestines out and then keep them regular with small amounts of Miralax? I think any laxative given in large amounts is going to cause discomfort and excessive poop issues. I've never given Aidan more than 1 capful/day (but usually 1/4 - 1/2 capful per day - we adjust depending on the consistency of his poop) and he's been regular with no extreme eliminations since we started him on it.  We tried glycerine suppositories, Karo syrup, mineral oil, Lactulose, prune juice and pear juice (his dr has since taken him off of juice) before starting Miralax.. Everything worked for about 2 weeks, but then his body would adjust and he would get constipated again. Miralax is the only thing that has continuously worked. I take him off of it when he's on an antibiotic because they tend to upset his stomach and he doesn't need it, but otherwise he's done fine with Miralax. (That said, I am concerned about what I'm reading so I will look into other alternatives.) Guest guest
lactalose didnt help nathan with his constipation, only miralax seems to help him. But we dont give it to him every day, even thoguht it is ordered daily. We just keep an eye on his bm's, and if he hasn't gone in a few days we give him his dose of miralax, then he will have a qudrouple xtra large soft stool (definately need a plunger or a big toilet, lol) within a day. He usually only has it a couple times a week anymore. I try to keep high fiber in his diet, and encourage lots of water or crystal light juice drinks. miralax has been a godsend for nathan's constipation. No more enema's or so full of bm he is vomitting or the constant smearing--then when given a couple enemas excetra he would be screaming and give birth practically. It is good to know miralax can be poisonous, but so can any drug, especially when taken to long or too much of it. shawna Re:MIRALAX Oh yes, miralax... when I went to 's ped last year AFTER HIM BEING ON A HIGH DOSE OF IT FOR 5 YEARS!!! once I found out what it was and how I really thought he was absorbing it due to his leaky gut - the doc of course thought I was crazy. Guest guest
nathan has been using miralax for about 9-10 years now and he also is not on a GF diet. He seems fine, infact since he does have BM's regularly he does better than all that mess up until his GI doc tried miralax when he was around 9. He started taking it twice a day, then after awhile they lowered it to daily, but twice daily if needed, then daily. And It still says daily, but we only give it daily as needed. We try to monitor his bm's, but nathan is potty trained and doesnt ALWAYS say when he has to go. and never " oh i pooped today, lol-- Majority of the time he just yells for help with the wiping, lol. shawna Re:MIRALAX Oh yes, miralax... when I went to 's ped last year AFTER HIM BEING ON A HIGH DOSE OF IT FOR 5 YEARS!!! once I found out what it was and how I really thought he was absorbing it due to his leaky gut - the doc of course thought I was crazy. Guest guest
nathan was dx with autism when he was 3-4years of age, and he didnt start taking miralax until around 9yrs of age ( i dont think it was available before that and his doc was trying other easier things first--none that worked for nathan)He is 18yrs old now and Ive never seen an increase or worsening in his autistic behaviors. Infact it seems as he gets older he has gotten mellower, he is still autistic and does show many of the characteristics just toned down some and other more refined to a science for us, lol. He is more grown up acting--even his doctor notices his maturaty. shawna Re:MIRALAX After reading the Green Beauty Guide, it dawned on me how bad it could be, but I was afraid to not use it because Mina's poops are so bad. I am so glad to see this, and I am wondering now if this didn't cause Mina's autism. Ugh!!!! I am with you, Amy. Sooooo frustrated. I will get that fiber and start using it right away! > > > > This is a site that was passed on to me...I cannot remember who or when, > but > > here it is > > http://www.danasvie <http://www.danasview.net/miralax.htm> > w.net/miralax.htm > > > > > >
Guest guest
a, well that's the other side of the story. When you child has some serious medical issues you do what you've gotta do.
