Hi Ivan,

Iam a medic who has just astrted in this game too. I am on my 4th

trip. I work for Capita, Abermed and Oilfield medics. There is no such

thing as a bad company to work for as long as you get your first trip.

All three of those companies will look after very well. There is a

company called atlantic who are also petrofac whom I have bad

experiences with, but if they give you your first trip grad it with

both hands.

Good luck and give me an email to let me know how you get on.

If you want a job in the oilfield you have to decide

what company you want to work for and go visit that

company with CV & qualifications in hand. Another way

would be if you knew someone who worked in the

oilfield and have them talk to Human Rescources for

you.

If you have any questions send me an email.

good evening some of the requirements are to hold a national registry

paramedic lic USA and you would need to find a US Coast Guard MPIC or USCG equal

type of MPIC cert. As I am not sure of all of your qualifacations you would need

to start I expect with USA licenses. There are several openings for medics here

in the GOM with different companies Acadian is one of those and I think that

Horizon also hires medics as well you would jus have to do an internet search

for Horizon and Acadians is Acadian.com click on the integrated solutions part.

However usually Acadian is where people start and for some reason they have a

high turnover rate but they prob have one of the largest bases for medics in the

GOM if you have any further questions I'll try to get more info for

you................................Trevor NREMTP MPIC

Bob,

There is really only one peice of advice i think anyone can give. He

really needs to ger a second opinion, preferably from an otologist or

neuro-otologist. If he truly has a c-toma it has to come out period

or it will contniue to grow and get worse. When i had mine it

was .5mm away from the brain and they removed the whole thing so they

should be able to remove it still.

I had it and the glue/smelly ear for a long time prior to my surgery

i never found it to be a problem with my job, i have been witht the

same company for 12 years. I guess i didnt let it bother me that

much. Nobody ever commented on it and i never really noticed it

either but i know the discharge smelt pretty bad.

Bob,

Your nephew's previous surgeon is talking crap, to be frank. If he

still has c-toma in there it isn't going to go away of its own accord,

and it's likely to continue to grow. The second opinion is a must

here, so his GP needs to refer him to another surgeon and you all need

to keep on at the GP until he does so.

> What I'd like to know is has anyone had a recurring cholesteatoma,

My ear used to stink like crazy, but I just defied anyone to notice it

or to remark on it. Of course that doesn't help your nephew if he

doesn't have the confidence to do that. Until such time as the

doctors sort it out properly, cotton wool in the ear and a strong

aftershave would be better than nothing - cosmetic but it might help

the confidence.

As for disability allowance, well as you know the government doesn't

even like giving it to people who are obviously unable to work, so I

wouldn't hold out too much hope in a case like this. I've never heard

of anyone trying to claim disability for this condition.

In any case you really don't want to go there; my son got disability

for a while because of his depression, he regards it as (yet another)

reason not to work. Believe me, the last thing a boy with no

confidence needs is some piece of paper saying he doesn't have to work !!

Bob - Did the previous surgeon say the c'toma is close to the brain

because of a CT scan or MRI - or did he actually operate and see the

c'toma? My c'toma was quite large. I was told it filled up every

spare space and had started growing on the dura mater. It still was

removed. Your nephew should definitely see another doctor.

Best of luck....Connie

This story saddends me.. I know what he is feeling.. I cant hold a

job either the smell makes me sick. I use to be ok with the smell

untill someone made a comment about it smelling like S*it. That

crushed me... I am at my whitends right now.. Im afraid of this c

toma.. I try to clean my ear with peroxide every morning just to

clean out the build up. and it usually holds out the smell for most

of the day.. I have had this since I was 15.. and now I am 29, It has

ruined my life, I frown to simply hug someone cause Im afraid they

will smell me.. Aww god bless him I hope he can learn to cope with

it.. as I have yet to learn to do that..

I have a couple of mostly-housebound disabled friends (not lymies) who

make a fairly comfortable living doing medical transcription. The job

involves translating doctors' notes into something that can be put in

files.

I think there are agencies that broker these kinds of jobs, and will

hook you up with doctors for work.

Best of luck,

Sara

Hi; similar situation here; I'm a single mom too sick to work; close

to being out on the street. If you find something, could you please

pass it on? I have looked into the home-based businesses; everything

I've found is pretty much a scam. Good luck to you and best to your wife.

Sara,

Don't you have to type for data entering? I can picture that to be quite

difficult doing it for a job. It is hard (at least for me) to type to converse

with group members. I think a lot of us have painful Lyme arthritis, I

think those types of jobs would be quite challenging for most of us. I don't

think there is any good Lyme friendly jobs, unless you do not have to drive,

type, walk, think too much or actually remember what you are doing. That's why

so many of us end up on disability.

For those of you who want to work. I do run dating sites. It is slow go, but

it does give extra spending money. You pay for the domain name, like 8

dollars and the company does the rest. You just advertise and bring in

members. You can run as many sites as you want. Remember this isn't getting

rich, but it may bring in some money at some point.

Also if you are a writer I have been writing, I am doing some romance with

sexual overtones, so if you can do this they are looking for submissions. If

the sexual overtones bother you then you need to find another place that

doesn't do that.

I live in Southern California and experienced my first severe Herx

reaction this week, which wound me up in the emergemcy room By the

time I got there, I was severely dehydraded, catanonic and herxing

every 30 to 40 minutes. My doc also said I was having geigchers, or

something like that. it was absolute hell and I wasn't sure that I

woild survive it. The hospital (Hoag In Orange county California)

doesn't see many lyme paitents, and the probagly thought I was

faking it. Anwyay, they hydraded me and tried to make me as

comfortable as possible. Eventually, like about 7 hours later, it

started getting better. Personally, I thought I was goign to die.

I'm here to tell you that I didn't, but it totally upsets me, even

more so now, that some doctors say this doesn't exist. Wait until

they or a family member get it. They will change their tune.

Anyway, if anyne has encouragement for a newbie who is insure she'll

make it all the way to the end.

My last question is this: How the heck can someone possibly work

with this disease? I kept my husband home for the worst two days, to

take care of me, but I have to go bak to work some day and I'm

really worried. Thank you

Thanks for any informative works.

Hi everyone,

I had to drive an hour each way to a high-tech job after I was finally

diagnosed with Lyme. It was very difficult. I remember wearing sunglasses

because I couldn't stand glare, felt carsick by the time I reached work,

fell asleep at my desk, etc. My job required reading, understanding, and

writing about complex technical subject matter. I did poorly at that job-the

first time I did poorly in 15 years in my profession as a technical writer.

What I'm doing now is starting my own editing and writing business (without

a technical focus). If you are very good with grammar and can write, you can

make a living at that. In this job market, it's been slim, but it's worth a

try. People need help with resumes and cover letters, too.

Don't give up. There are some telecommuting jobs. I heard you can work from

your own home office as a rep for online businesses, such as 1-800

Flowers.com. When I'm not herxing I can think more clearly and do something

like that.

If you're really too sick to do anything else, disability is good. When you

feel well enough, perhaps you can pick up some work for cash.

Be well,

Janet Ring

The question included a reference to data entry, so it seemed

reasonable to assume that typing was OK.
