Guest guest
I'm struggling back from a long recovery after ankle fusion & other procedures. I know I lost a lot of strength while casted in a boot and not walking regularly. In fact it seems I walked better before the surgery bit I'm sure it was the right thing to do. I've heard some people say we can't build up muscles once they've atrophied or improve balance , but never seen that in the CMT literature. My PT guy says we can if only other muscles and nerves will start to take over the ones that deteriorated (not unlike a stoke victim). Does anyone know the scoop on this? Any CMT people in their 60's who were able to improve with continued PT? I've seen younger people with CMT who run marathons and such and can't imagine I could have done that even at age 20.
