Guest guest
Hi.Clicked on link and it doesn't work. I am REALLY interested in how you vacuum stuff in a mason jar. Exactly what do you have to buy and use to safely seal the jars with sprouts inside. This is VERY interesting, and thanks much Melody > > OK, I found something interesting. > > http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/ > > This lady makes up her weekly salad and puts them in Jars what is actually > in the jar is just the lettuce she adds toppings later but I thought to > myself, why couldn't someone do this with sprouts, after they've been > harvested and rinsed and spun really dry. Guest guest
I have used an air mattress pump to remove air from bags of food going into the freezer. Guest guest
I have two attachments (one wide mouth, one regular) that fit my foodsaver, and you just put them over the mason jar with the flat piece of the two piece ring on, vac seal, then remove the attachment and put the outside ring on the jar. I think I have a video of it at http://www.mymealmasters.com If not, I will add one. The attachments for the foodsaver are about 10 bucks each at kitchen stores or online. > > > > OK, I found something interesting. > > > > http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/ > > > > This lady makes up her weekly salad and puts them in Jars what is actually > > in the jar is just the lettuce she adds toppings later but I thought to > > myself, why couldn't someone do this with sprouts, after they've been > > harvested and rinsed and spun really dry. Guest guest
If you have the large food sealer canisters, you can also put a mason jar with a flat lid on it INSIDE the large canister, vacuum seal the large canister until you hear a " pop " , then release the air from the large canister-the mason jar inside the large canister will remain air sealed, and you can remove it and put a screw ring on it. Guest guest
Pam. I went to the Foodsaver web site. Is this what one would use if one put sprouts in a mason jar, put the ring and lid on it, and place this gadget on top and vacuum seal? I just want to know if this is what one should buy. If I'm right? I'll go on youtube and watch videos. Here is what I'm talking about. Thanks much, Melody http://www.foodsaver.com/product.aspx?pid=9067 Oh, I used to have the Reynolds Food Air sucker thingee but they stopped making bags. I wonder if I still have that. I could put a piece of electrical tape on top of a lid and then vacuum? Am I correct on this. Wow, the stuff I'm learning would fill a barn. lol Melody > >>>> >> > > >>>> >> > OK, I found something interesting. > >>>> >> > > >>>> >> > http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/ > >>>> >> > > >>>> >> > This lady makes up her weekly salad and puts them in Jars ¡V what is > >>> >> actually > >>>> >> > in the jar is just the lettuce ¡V she adds toppings later ¡V but I > >>>> thought to > >>>> >> > myself, why couldn't someone do this with sprouts, after they've been > >>>> >> > harvested and rinsed and spun really dry. Guest guest
This is the machine that I use. I've been using Food Saver for about 15 years. I have worn out two machines and the current one is getting a little old. I liked them so much that I bought one for each of my 5 kids for Christmas one year. They are really worth the price. I don't know about putting sprouts in a jar, because I use them up fast enough that I don't need to vacuum them. ew Re: Salad in a jar Pam. I went to the Foodsaver web site. Guest guest
Yes, but the foodsaver thing is probably the most expensive way to do it. Guest guest
So let's see if I have this correct. I put sprouts in a glass mason jar, put lid and ring around and tighten. I punch a tiny hole on the top, cover with electrical tape, put the vacuum thingy on and .... THAT'S IT!!!!?? Really? Melody > > Try it and see! Guest guest
I watched the pump N Seal video on youtube last night. When he got to the ziplock bags, and he put vegetable oil on both sides of the zipping part, and he took out the plastic tube, I said out loud. Thank god I have my Lock N Lock and Oso Fresh. As it is, I probably won't need this because as I grow my sprouts and shoots, I give them away. And guess what? You know my friend the beautician who said 'I VANT TO GROW PEAS " , and who I gave a mason jar with Fenugreek seeds to grow herself?? I went there yesterday with a little tray of already started Pea Shoots in a sure to grow mat that I had cut to fit. Well, you should have seen her face light up when she said " Oh, I can grow this myself now " . She now is growing Fenugreek and Pea Shoots. And this was a person who didn't want to know about sprouting. You see, baby steps. lol Melody > >> > > >> > Try it and see!
