Guest guest
I had planted a lot of plants just after I moved into a house that needed a lot of work. My husband and I moved there and we had problems and he was leaving, though I didn't know before I moved. Itook my frustration and anger out in the arden. I had planted a lot of dahlias tthe time. I was out there weedig and pulled out a plant tht had stems like a weed and then I thought about the fact that this weed had buds on them. I ended up stopping after I had pulled one out and left the other grow soI could see what kind of flower the weeds had on them. Well they finally bloomed and they were what you call inner plate dahlas. the one I left was ed and had whie around the edges and it was bigger than a saucer, just a huge flower and beautiful. I about cried and didn't know the color of the one I had thrown away but it was likely a yellow one maybe with red on it as I sort of alternated colors and I always like yellow and red together. I had some lovely flowers off he plant I left but grieved over the one I had pulled and threw out.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, June 11, 2012 10:17 AM Subject: Stevia Surprised Me!!  I live in an apartment, so I do my gardening at my son's in town. I went over to his place to weed several weeks ago, and I pulled up some things that looked like plan ol' garden variety weeds to me, yanking them up. I forgot I had planted Stevia the year before, knew they were only annuals, I live in Wisconsin (where the winters are too hard for them to survive), and frankly was not thinking with a " full deck " that day. Just wanted the weeds out of the way. When we went to the local greenhouse over Mother's Day to pick out new starts for veggies etc, I showed my son Stevia plants, as he had heard about Stevia, wondering what it looked and tasted like. Then it dawned on me.....yikes, I had been pulling Stevia! Groan! I did not realize it would re-seed like that. Thought I had to get new seeds every year. I had used Park Seeds variety from Israel. So, I am starting new seeds, and this time will not yank them out in the spring. It is a fun plant for kids, and a healthy natural sweetener. Fortunately, I did not yank the Borage start-ups, as I did recognize them. They re-seed also. Their leaves are very healthy in a tea, and they are so pretty when they flower. Never too old to learn, and learning I am! Have a great week everyone! Phyllis
