Guest guest
Before you get too excited about raising tilapia for food, check and see if they are even legal where you are. They are a very invasive non-native fish, destructive of any environment they find their way into, and in a lot of places, especially the South, it's illegal to have them. Only fish farms can get them here in Texas where I am. They used to be available in aquarium shops but no more. The Houston zoo had a large pond full of them for many years, and when they became illegal, they had to get them out and put other kinds of fish in it. H. Guest guest
The people I am referring to are raising their tilapia in tanks, not ponds. Yes they multiply sort of like rabbits. The person I referred to that had issues was in an upstairs apartment and a tank was leaking. Guest guest
Thanks for the heads up, . If they ARE illegal here, I guess I will have to hide them under my " illegal " black current bushes, and keep them from my cows that produce " illegal " raw milk, lol! I do understand about them being invasive, so I get the theory, but we are talking about them being in a tank, so no worry of them getting into the wild. I do know the guy I visited was selling the fingerlings for a dollar each. His setup was right out in the open, so not sure what legalities are, but worth knowing. > > > Wow thats just nuts cause I just found a web site just north of Kansas > > that said they deal with small time people but ship nation wide.
