My kids are fully chelated with ALA. It allowed them to tolerate all

foods and not have gut yeast any more. They required many other

supplements for major improvements tho.

Tons of people. It works great if they are toxic with something it

chelates, may not do much othewise.

Did you get a hair test at some point and discuss it with the group?

Many of us on this list use ALA. What have you tried and at what doses and

dosing schedules? How long did you try them? How old is your son, what's his

diagnosis?Did you do a hair test and apply counting rules to determine which

toxic metals he has? What did it show? ALA chelates arsenic and mercury, dmsa

chelates lead and mercury, dmps can chelate mercury. If he's got high antimony

and arsenic it's likely that the dmsa and dmps wouldn't have helped. How's his

diet? What supplements does he take? Most here find that it takes a

combination of biomedical approaches, rather than just one at a time.

If you are taking ANY alpha lipoic acid you may want to do some

reading about the chelating effects of this supplement. There are

good resources in the files

@ / and

http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/

frequent-dose-chelation/?

yguid=140279175

Taking it on a random basis, which would be ANY schedule that is not

every 3 hours for a limited time and then resting your body for at

least an equal time, causes a redistribution of heavy metals; the

larger the dose, the larger amount of metal that is discharged and

available for redistribution. It also crosses the BBB so can leave

you with those metals firmly entrenched in your brain.

I'm using ldn for a vaccine injured young adult who is also chelating

using ALA and DMSA. When we use this combo, she gets it every 3 hours

around the clock for 3 days and then is off for 4 days. Sometimes we

use a 3on/11off schedule. We have taken more extended breaks to

better address mineral depletion that occurs with using this

combination. As I've said before, I'm struck by the similarities of

symptoms that I read here with what she has experienced. imo, the

labels i.e. autism, pdd, ms, als are not too relevant esp if it all

boils down to toxic exposure and the body's effort to cope.

**** For example, high doses of alpha lipoic acid deplete some of our

biotin and more importantly B12. You must take extra. Have a great

day everyone and God Bless, Kathy

I don’t know much about it, but Nutrimedical just came out with a

product called Nutritrala that is supposedly the first extended release

version of ALA. I’ve used some of his other recommended products with

great results.

http://www.nutrimedical.com/products.jhtml?method=view

<http://www.nutrimedical.com/products.jhtml?method=view & product.id=3289>

& product.id=3289

We haven’t started chelating yet, but I’m already a little stressed

about the frequent dosing. This looks promising to me.

An increase of no more than 50% at a time is best. Side effects can

increase a lot with a doubling of dose.

Side effects also vary from round to round, so I would be sure you

are fine at 25 mg for several rounds before considering an increase

to 37.5 mg.

Art,

You seem to be one of the few people at the conference who took good

notes. Do you recall Berkson indicating he used oral therapy or was

it IV?

Wasn't physically at the conference, Elliot, just have a pretty good

memory of what is discussed here. I believe Berkson's treatment

involved IV.

I wasn't at the conference - is there a paper by this Dr. Berkson? I've been

taking ALA for a

year & feel it's really helped me & that it may be one reason why there were no

new lesions

on my MRI of last week.

I don't know about the best brand, but www.vitacost.com has the best prices of

several

brands, and their house brand NSI is a great deal & feels like it works when I

take it. But I'd

love to know if brand is important & I could do better!

Re the IV issue: I can't give myself an IV, but I do try to get closer to that

by absorbing the

ALA buccally (through the tissues lining the inside of the mouth). I open the

capsules, spill

out the powder into a teacup, dissolve it in a little lemon-flavored cod liver

oil & spoon it

with an espresso spoon under my tongue and between my cheeks and gums, holding

it in

my mouth for as long as I can stand before swallowing. Sounds crazy, but I think

I'm

getting at least some of it directly into my bloodstream via the carotid artery

that leads to

the brain. I do this in the evening with two 300 mg caps, and in the morning

take one 300

mg time-release tablet (Whole Foods brand) to take me through the day, so that's

only

900 mg a day. I also take Vitamin C & E with the ALA - they have a synergistic

effect.

I do worry about overdoing it, though - anyone know anything about side

effects/potential

downsides of high doses of ALA?

For those interested in antioxidants -- like alpha lipoic acid (ALA)

-- here is a great video by Dr Mark Hymen that covers 'Glutathione' --

which our body produces naturally. He calls it the 'mother of all

antioxidants'. Taking ALA and/or NAC will increase your glutathione.

I think he does a great job of explaining / describing the benefits.

My husband and I take B12 sublingually but never thought of taking the ALA in much the same way. Two gold stars to you, Judith! Would you share with us just how you would describe the taste? And to other members of the list, how do you feel about taking ALA bucally/sublingually? Warm wishes to all, Jan

You can use it alone as a chelator - danasview.net - she used it alone to

chelate her kids (and I believe herself as well)

Can this be used alone, or does it have to be taken with other

I used ALA only. It is helpful to take vitamin C and selenium also.

I have chelated all four kids, and myself, with ALA.

Zahavi,

Do you know anything about the difference

between alpha lipoic and R lipoic mentioned by someone recently?

Also can you remind me the possible benefit of taking it ?

I have just ordered D-Phen using your

coupon, thanks.

I need to be careful just how many supplements

I pile in at once and want to add only that which can help inflammation or

pain.

Having felt convinced that my Diclofenac

is actually making my inflammation worse instead of better, I am cutting it in

half to see if I can survive.

hallo nuala

if i were you i would start the D-Phenylalanine and see what it does for you.you

can take it 3 times a day on an empty stomach.2 hours after eating or half an

hour before eating.it should help you with the pains.

we learnt about alpha lipoic acid mainly from dr berkson.i do not know about

R-lipoic.we use the brand that dr berkson recomend and it is metabolic

maintnance.my wife is light weight so she uses 300 mg per day.after starting

that she felt she could tolerate more supplements.it probably helps with the

liver.as i wrote you she uses so many different so it is not easy to know

exactly the effect of every supplement.dr berkson you can see onn you tube when

you search berkson.low dose naltrexone.
