Guest guest
I just bought some ALA by Xymogen they claim that ALA only lasts 27 minutes in your blood. This is a timed release pill that extends though the day. You take 2 before breakfast and 1 before dinner. It's a little pricey my Doc charged me $60.00 for 90 count. I was taking Jarrow brand ALA for my Hep C . Just started the LDN for fibromyalsia and the Hep C. I didn't know that about the short time in the plasma with regular ALA. I thought I'd throw the info out there. Guest guest
I WAS GIVING ALA TO MY HUSBAND (WHO WAS DIAGNOSED ALS 5 YEARS AGO) SINCE AÑMOST 5 YEARS AGO. IN THE LAST 3 MONTH I WAS WORRIED BECAUSE HE WAS LOOSING TO MUCH HAIR, THEN I STUDY THE CHOICE TO START GIVING HIM BIOTIN, (HE ALWAYS RECEIVED B COMPLEX , AS WELL) THINKING THAT MAYBE THE HAIR LOSS WAS BECAUSE OF A BIOTIN DEFFICIENCY,( ADDED TO THE PROTEIN ALTERATION METABOLISM DUE TO ALS). THEN I STARTED BIOTIN, 100mg 3/TIMES A DAY, NO IMPROVEMENT AT THE BEGINNING, THEN I READ THAT BIOTIN COMPETES WITH ALA, THEN I REMOVED THE ALA, 2 WEEKS LATER THE HAIR LOSS REDUCES A LOT. NOW, 1 MONTH LATER I AM CONSIDERING STARTING AGAIN ALA AT A DIFFERENT TIME OF THE DAY, BECAUSE I THINK ALA IS A VERY GOOD ANTIOXIDANT FOR NEUROLOGYCAL DESEASES, BECAUSE LITERATURE SAYS IT PASS TROUGH THE HEMATOENCEFHALYC BARREER, AS WE KNOW. DOES SOMEBODY HAS ANY EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THIS? THANKS MARITA Nutritionist & Dietitian pd:sorry about my English, I am from Perú From: smalk50@... I've been taking 600mg to 900mg daily for a couple of years now, in conjunction with silymarin and selenium for my Hepatitis C. I had been taking 600 per my local doc's advice until Dr. Berkson told me to up the ALA to 900 a day. But, this dosage is specifically tailored to what my docs think that I should have in combating the hep c virus - and is not the standard dose (if there is one) Every one is different. I'm probably going to cut back to 600mg as my liver has greatly improved since being put on the LDN in Feb. ALA does have chelation properties and I did have my mercury amalgam's removed when I first started using ALA in such high doses, as I have a genetic predisposition for homocysteine problems and cycling out metals. Other hep c folks that I know also take ALA as well. Their chief complaint is stomach upset - which is why you should always take it with meals. You give no info at all and I expect the site will be selling it so not going to blindly believe that. Can you explain or tell us what it is? I have never heard of this ever. -- Best regards, Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 8:11:02 PM, you wrote: Hi all For people in Ireland UK and Europe you can now get Metabolic Maintenance ALA at http://www.alldayvitamins.com/mm-ala.html This is the cheapest you will get I think ------------------------------------
Guest guest
ALA alpha lipoic acid supposedly repairs damaged nerves. Contains lots of sulfur. In German it is a Rx item. http://search.lef.org/cgi-src-bin/MsmGo.exe?grab_id=0 & page_id=6550 & query=ala & hiword=ala I tried it for 1 year. I had numb feet that also felt like they were burning dry wood (strange awful feeling), and ALA restored most of the feeling and stopped the burning. It causes heartburn, so I take with a protein meal. I still take it. It comes in two forms the D and the L. One is natural, one is synthetic both work Both are recommended From: low dose naltrexone [mailto:low dose naltrexone ] On Behalf Of H Sent: Wednesday, May 26, 2010 9:37 PM To: low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] Alpha Lipoic Acid Current time: Thursday, 2010/05/27, 02:36 Hello , What exactly is it? Guest guest
D- and L- forms? are you mixing it up with phenylalanine? ALA has 2 isomers, the R & S. ALA is manufactured, and comes out with about equal parts of each isomer. the R is what the body uses naturally, the S may be some detriment to the benefit of the R but little if any. the R-ALA commercially available started out as R,S-ALA and then was seperated, but Berkson says the process leaves inevitably chemical residue that's unacceptable (benzene?) so use the R,S which is safe, cheaper, and works fine. i don't know that all R-ALA is polluted... maybe it is possible to clean it up? i wonder what Geranova (sp?) says about this? R-ALA seems to be their main biz and it ain't cheap. Guest guest
Dr berkson is the expert of ALA and wrote a book that you can order at amazon.he spoke in many of the ldn confrences about his treatments of people with ldn and ALA.many times also iv .he is against R-ALA as he says it is contaminated.one of the brands he recomends is metabolic maintenance. Here you can see many videos of dr berkson at the ldn confrences. http://nolahepper.blogspot.com/2009/06/dr-burt-berkson-and-low-dose-naltrexone.html Look at the bottom of the page for the links
Guest guest
Some info on ALAhttp://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/othernuts/la/index.htmlJackieFrom: Big Al <bigal123@...>Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Alpha Lipoic Acidlow dose naltrexone Date: Thursday, May 27, 2010, 1:59 PMThe best is R Alpha Lipoic Acid. We have used it for years on my wife's diabetes. Dr Whitaker says the only single item he would give would be Alpha Lipoic acid. But R Alpha is a whole lot better. I get ours from I-Herb a Source Natural Mfg. Whitaker says use 400 mg. We have always used 100 mg a day From Advanced Medical site comes this for those that don't knowWhat is R Alpha Lipoic Acid and Alpha Lipoic Acid? Alpha Lipoic acid is a natural substance found in certain foods and also produced in the human body. Alpha Lipoic acid is a disulfide compound found naturally in mitochondria as the coenzyme for pyruvate dehydrogenase and a-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a unique, vitamin-like antioxidant which exists in two forms, R-alpha-lipoic acid and S-alpha-lipoic acid. These two forms contain the same number and composition of atoms but have different arrangements of the atoms in their respective molecules. Natural lipoic acid is R Alpha lipoic acid. Synthetic lipoic acid contains a 50/50 mixture of the two forms. Studies with the mixture demonstrated beneficial effects in treating a number of diseases and conditions. More recent research has shown that the R Alpha Lipoic acid alone is far more effective than S Alpha Lipoic acid or the mixture. Recently, pure R Alpha Lipoic acid has become available as a nutritional supplement.R Alpha Lipoic Acid as an Antioxidant R Alpha Lipoic acid is regarded by many as the supreme antioxidant. R-Lipoic acid is unique in that it functions as both a fat and water-soluble antioxidant that can easily cross cell membranes. Thus, it can confer free radical protection to both interior and exterior cellular structures.Big AlBig Al-- "The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the greatest liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth." -- H.L.
