Guest guest
As I said before, I could tell not much change in the pain one way or the other, until about 6 weeks after rf, then it was great. --- <watermelanie@...> wrote: > my doc scheduled me for rf tomorrow morning... i'll > let everyone know how it > goes. he warned that it could get worse for about > 10 days and there are no > guarantees.. blah, blah. anyhow, i'm excited at the > possibility of less pain. > > i'll give an update when i'm up to it. > > -mel > > > This message may be coming from a foreign address. Guest guest
nope, not a saturday... a friday. i just got up from my nap. i had the rf this morning at 11:00. Yeah, it hurt but it was totally bearable. Very weird sensations... them putting pressure on the nerves. It was very interactive... the doctor was constantly asking me how does that feel, where does that hurt, how bad is it, etc. one time, he hit a nerve that made my head rock back and forth, THAT was a weird feeling. i'm sore now, in general, at the needle site. but otherwise i'm okay. i would do it again in a heartbeat if it works for me. it didn't hurt too much for me. I imagine i'll be a little sore the next couple of days at the site, but i don't expect it to get any worse. my doctor said that it could take anywhere from a couple days to a couple of weeks to start seeing any improvement. so, now i wait. well, there's my experience. but i have a pretty high pain threshold, and everyone experiences pain differently. -mel > > > my doc scheduled me for rf tomorrow morning... i'll let everyone > > know how it > > goes. he warned that it could get worse for about 10 days and > > there are no > > guarantees.. blah, blah. anyhow, i'm excited at the possibility of > > less pain. > > > > i'll give an update when i'm up to it. > > > > -mel

Guest guest
i think there were 3 or 4 needle sites. yeah, it was pretty freaky when my neck rocked back and forth... that freaked me out a wee bit. but, they left that nerve alone, so i was happy about that! and i had enough sedation to be suprised when it was over... i said, " that's it? " i'll let you know how the next few days go. and i go back for my check up in two weeks. -melanie > > one > > time, he hit a > > nerve that made my head rock back and forth, THAT was a weird > > feeling. > > Well, that sounds freaky. > > > > i'm sore now, in general, at the needle site. > > There was only one needle site? Guest guest
hmmm, i just looked at my back and there are actually about 10 injection sites!!! yikes! i didn't know that. but it makes sense, everytime they hit a spot that didn't react, they had to try again. so, i don't mean to alarm anyone, but that's how many needle sites i had. they did three levels on the right side of my neck. -mel > > > one > > > time, he hit a > > > nerve that made my head rock back and forth, THAT was a weird > > > feeling. > > > > Well, that sounds freaky. > > > > > > i'm sore now, in general, at the needle site. > > > > There was only one needle site? Guest guest
Actually, they test the exact site of the proposed radiofrequency burn with two frequencies so as to prove they will not 1...make you paralyzed in any even minor way, and 2..do not lose sensation in an arm, for instance....when these tests meet certain prearranged parameters, confirmed by the patient, then they turn on the radiofrequency needle to a temperature of 140 degrees f.--but in a 1-2 mm effective tip diameter only, for varying period of time. The energy used here is the same type as a microwave oven. I am now 2 weeks three days, and need to go to five weeks before the pain goes away, if it goes like the first time. Good luck melanie. --- <watermelanie@...> wrote: > i think there were 3 or 4 needle sites. yeah, it > was pretty freaky when my neck > rocked back and forth... that freaked me out a wee > bit. but, they left that nerve > alone, so i was happy about that! > > and i had enough sedation to be suprised when it was > over... i said, " that's it? Guest guest
Hi everyone, i am seeing my pain doctor on monday to discuss radio frequency for me regarding my L3,L4,L5 stenosis and spondy. outside of my questions of total fear of pain and negative outcome, can anyone suggest some other things i should be asking about or looking at? i have alreAdy had the facet shots a number of times. no panacea there. and i have had the regular injections. i think this is the next step in my avoidence of a fusion with rods. definitely do not want to go there. so, if you guys can think of anything that will help me with my appt on monday, i would appreciate it. thanks, marsha
Guest guest
did you ever get the weirdo head rocking when they hit a nerve? i hope they didn't rf THAT nerve... well, this is the day after and i feel the same, no better and no worse. i don't even really have any soreness at the site. the funny part is, you know how i have endometriosis... well i have suck wicked cramps that i don't even feel my neck at all right now. kinda funny, i guess a picked a good time to have my boo-boo worked on. the cortisone shots i got messed up my period, didn't have a period for three months, so my gyno induced it with medroxyprogesterone and i got my period with a vengence. i've learned to like my cramps because they make my back feel better... anyway, i feel fine today... just like i though i would. -melanie > > > > one > > > > time, he hit a > > > > nerve that made my head rock back and forth, > > THAT was a weird > > > > feeling. > > > > > > Well, that sounds freaky. > > > > > > > > i'm sore now, in general, at the needle site. > > > > > > There was only one needle site? Guest guest
When they test the motor, then I can feel muscle twitching, and I told him, and rarely when he was testing sensory I could feel tingling in my hand, and I told him...and so, they would reposition the needle. It is an interactive thing. And why they keep you awake. The skin on the back of the neck and torso is relatively devoid of sensory fibers, and propioception is almost non exhistant. Try this...have someone place their pointy and long finger spread apart in your mid back. Then just the one pointy finger. It is impossible to tell when they are using one or two fingers....that is position sense, and not much in the back. When they inject in the back, they will tell you it may sting, most of the time you feel zilch. --- <watermelanie@...> wrote: > did you ever get the weirdo head rocking when they > hit a nerve? i hope they > didn't rf THAT nerve... > > well, this is the day after and i feel the same, no > better and no worse. i don't > even really have any soreness at the site. the > funny part is, you know how i > have endometriosis... well i have suck wicked cramps > that i don't even feel my > neck at all right now. kinda funny, i guess a > picked a good time to have my > boo-boo worked on. the cortisone shots i got messed > up my period, didn't > have a period for three months, so my gyno induced > it with > medroxyprogesterone and i got my period with a > vengence. i've learned to > like my cramps because they make my back feel > better... > > anyway, i feel fine today... just like i though i > would. > > -melanie > > > > > > > one > > > > > time, he hit a > > > > > nerve that made my head rock back and forth, > > > THAT was a weird > > > > > feeling. > > > > > > > > Well, that sounds freaky. > > > > > > > > > > i'm sore now, in general, at the needle > site. > > > > > > > > There was only one needle site? Guest guest
interesting you should say that... most of the time when they were poking me, i didn't feel anything and i though maybe something was wrong or they couldn't find the bad spot. but what you said about lack of feeling in that part of the body, i have to agree with. most of the time sticking the needle in didn't hurt. what did hurt, was when they found the actual painful nerve deep in the tissue. interesting. they also used versed as the sedative, and consequently, i don't even remember most of the procedure! i keep trying to remember what the asked me and how i answered but i can't remember much. that is such a weird drug. i remember my whole day, except for 20 minutes in the middle of it. anyhow, i appreciate all these talks we have had... i have learned a lot and it has helped me feel more comfortable through this whole process. much thanks, mel > > > > > > one > > > > > > time, he hit a > > > > > > nerve that made my head rock back and forth, > > > > THAT was a weird > > > > > > feeling. > > > > > > > > > > Well, that sounds freaky. > > > > > > > > > > > > i'm sore now, in general, at the needle > > site. > > > > > > > > > > There was only one needle site? Guest guest
Yah, amnesiacs are freaky. Some sleeping pills (like Ambien) also have amnesiac component to them. So if you take them, and then don't go to sleep, you might have serious problems remembering what you did. Guest guest
Here is interesting side story here...I went to doc at about 4 wks post rf cause i was convinced he had missed the rf nerves. He told me i had not waited long enough...so I waited a week or so, and the pain relented finally. That office call cost me $$ as I have to pay for all my care not covered by medicare. So learned a lesson there. Guest guest
i'll keep that in mind. i had the rf about a week ago and i find that i wake up with less pain already, but i have increased pain after activity most likely because of nerve irritation from the procedure. so, in that sense, my pain did kinda increase a bit but my doc warned me that this could happen temporarily. i also think i overworked myself a bit right after the procedure which might have angered my back. but what i find interesting, i am having moments free of pain now and then, which is a new development... i have high hopes for the ESI and rf combination therapy in my case. i'll make sure i give it 4-6 weeks before evaluating my results. my doctor said that he wasn't sure if we should do the left side because most of my pain is on the right side (which we just did). what are your thoughts on that? the mri didn't specify where the facet degeneration is. do you think that i should just go ahead and rf the left side too now or wait for 6-8 weeks, see how the right side went, think about it and *then* do it? -mel > > > Hi everyone, > > > i am seeing my pain doctor on monday to discuss > > radio frequency for me > > > regarding my L3,L4,L5 stenosis and spondy. > > outside of my questions of total > > > fear of pain and negative outcome, can anyone > > suggest some other things i > > > should be asking about or looking at? > > > i have alreAdy had the facet shots a number of > > times. no panacea there. > > > and i have had the regular injections. i think > > this is the next step in my > > > avoidence of a fusion with rods. definitely do > > not want to go there. > > > so, if you guys can think of anything that will > > help me with my appt on > > > monday, i would appreciate it. > > > thanks, marsha > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > > removed] > > > > > > > > > This message may be coming from a foreign address. Does that include the left side? If it does, I'd wait for sure. But I'm not answering from a position of knowledge, so much a postition of " experimentation. " If you did the left side before the right side was through the full cycle of weeks, how would you know what had worked? If, in a month or so, your right side is all better, but your left side is making you crazy, well, it might be that you lost some time treating the left side. But what if 6 weeks after the right-side treatment, the whole back feels better? Then you saved yourself not only one whole left-side treatment, but in proving that the problem is really only on the right side, you saved yourself from repeat treatments on the left side later, too. What does your doc say? Shulamit

Guest guest
Mel, i am going for rf on wednesday. scared to death. and then we are going to do epidurals in a few weeks. i am never quite sure what is causing which pain. i feel like i am always trying to figure it out. when you say esi, do you mean epidurals? marsha In a message dated 9/15/2005 1:18:33 P.M. Guest guest
yes, Epidural Steroid Injection and i had 2 of them in my neck. to be honest, i thought that the esi's hurt worse than the rf. i wish you the best of luck and hope that your rf is done gently. you might flare up for a couple of weeks but that is normal. right now, at about a week and a half after my rf, i find that when i feel good... i feel really good but when my pain kicks in... it's a little more intense. but tolerable, and with the hopes of relief in the near future. i'll try anything once. you are very brave to try something that scares you. let us know how it goes. john says that it can take 4-6 weeks to see results, so hang in there. -melanie > > Mel, i am going for rf on wednesday. scared to death. and then we are > going to do epidurals in a few weeks. i am never quite sure what is causing > which pain. i feel like i am always trying to figure it out. when you say esi, > do you mean epidurals? marsha > In a message dated 9/15/2005 1:18:33 P.M. Guest guest
hello to everyone, last Wednesday i had radio frequency (ablution?) in my facet joints. i am not knowledgeable about the parts of my back to say it was this or this. but it was that fatty lump right above my butt. that area. anyway, i have put this off for months because i was so afraid of having my nerves burned. it sounds awful. just want you all to know that i am feeling sooo good. for some reason i am not feeling worse nor am i going thru the four weeks of feeling more pain before i feel better. i had instant relief. my doctor said something about putting some cortizone into the areas so that i would have less pain.. i see her in a week and will ask about that. she did 3 areas left side and 3 areas right side. i am so excited. i had dinner out on thurs nite with my friends. i went to the metropolitan museam of art yesterday and walked for miles. i have not been able to do this because of the overwhelming pain in the facets every night. i am so excited. in another week i will get a cortizone shot in my spine and then another one a week later. my legs are still pretty messed up. but the sense of relief is enormous. i was so ready for surgery and now i don;t think that is an option. i am afraid to write this. i am afraid the pain will come back. my best to you all. marsha
Guest guest
I looking for any info on RF(radio frequency ablation) and CMT. I know it is kinda unusual but I'm having severe issues. I found some info but I can't remember where I found it. Thanks
