Guest guest
I meant to respond to this earlier. Re: the 82 year old man with " sudden " leg paralysis. There is much we don't know about CMT. What we know is that it IS a progressive disease. Aging also is naturally progressive. However, I question the " suddeness " in the legs. And I hope by this time your father has had a thorough workup, including evidence of stroke or seizure. I also ask what type of stress did your father have before the leg problem? Stress, of any kind, physical, nutritional, mental, emotional, environmental, spiritual, all can play a part in exacerbating symptoms not previously there. Will this happen to you? There isn't anyone on our planet that knows. CMT is different for everyone, even the same type, even in the same families. Take care of yourself. Watch your diet. Eat heart healthy, loose weight, quit smoking and drinking if you need too. Exercise at the level you can regularly. Rest as needed. Be frank with your doctor about your problems and fears. Learn to keep yourself calm and stress free as possible. Join a support group to keep up to date with others and learn all you can about CMT. Find something to be positive about everyday and be grateful. Gretchen
Guest guest
When diagnosed at age 50 with CMT 2, I figured that the rate of progression I'd know up until that point meant I'd go the rest of my life without much effect. That was not the case. It was like a switch got turned on as the symptoms started to compound. And it all started the morning in April 2005 when I woke up and my foot hurt too much to walk.
