Guest guest
Lori, I just got a new type of AFOs called a Noodle. I am so impressed. I got these from Wade Bader. He has some you tube videos of a young guy who is wearing one due to a bad wake board injury. He had tried different types of AFOs and was not happy with any of them. Now he has a noodle and is so happy. I am too. There is very little skin contact so they afos will not be hot. Plus there is less in the shoe so getting shoes to work will be much easier. I'm wearing New Balance running shoes with mine in the video the guy wears mid cut Nike bball shoes. Maybe your son would like those and it would be easier on him and you when it comes time to find shoes. Wade Bader is in Tampa but will work through your local orthotist. I think its better to go to him if possible. He remade the pair he made for me because he wasn't satisfied with how the first pair fit. He did that overnight. Pretty good service, huh? I'm impressed. I think you will be too. Look for the you tube video. They are similar to the helix type of AFOs but don't cost the $12,000 that helixs do. They were the same price as regular AFO. Wade uses kevlar and graphite so his braces are thinner and stronger. Much better than those old plastic ones I had. Bob >
Guest guest
Bob, If you wouldn't mind, could you please tell me where to find the video on youtube for these AFOs? i have the hard plastic ones and they are not comfortable, to be honest i don't wear them, b/c of the uncomfortability, and the fact that i am having such a hard time trying to find shoes to wear.. i can't wear ones with an arch in them, they to me make me feel more " off-balance " than normal..if that is possible...thanks so much. Tracey From: C m IDN <robert30@...> Subject: Re: R: Noodle AFOs for your son Date: Friday, September 17, 2010, 9:54 AM Â , I've been very happy with mine. I have footdrop and they work well. They were the same cost as any other AFO. Either you could come down to Tampa with the family for a short vacation or Wade Bader would work with your local orthotist. I would def recommend the noodles for you and your kids. I'm sold on them. Did you watch the youtube video on them? It's one of a guy who has bad footdrop due to a wakeboard injury and they work great for him and he had tried all kinds of AFOs. It shows him running in his. Not sure I can run in mine but they are so good, haha. I think you will be impressed with Wade and how much he wants you to have an afo that works. He remade mine while I was down there cause he didn't like how the first pair fit. Bob > > >
Guest guest
Here's one of the videos on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2RToSn7Kbc, and here's the other one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNoGr9_gvQI & feature=related, I really like my noodles. This guy has a really bad case of footdrop and you can see how they help him. There is very little in your shoe so its easy to wear. The inner sole of the shoe goes over the footplate of the noodle too which helps how they fit. Try them. > > > From: C m IDN <robert30@...> > Subject: Re: R: Noodle AFOs for your son > > Date: Friday, September 17, 2010, 9:54 AM > > > Â > > > > , > > I've been very happy with mine. Guest guest
Wade works with other orthotists on a wholesale basis through his company Kenetic Research in Tampa. Your local orthotist would cast you and your kids and send the casts to Wade to make your noodles. Then he would send them back to your orthotist for final fitting to you and your kids. Hope this helps. > > > > > > From: C m IDN <robert30@> > > Subject: Re: R: Noodle AFOs for your son > > > > Date: Friday, September 17, 2010, 9:54 AM > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > , > > > > I've been very happy with mine. Guest guest
I recognize those AFOs as ones that my orthotist had me try on. However, since they were " off the shelf " , they could not be modified. My ankle bone stuck out too much and was putting a lot of pressure there, so I couldn't wear them. Otherwise, they felt amazing. It was the first time I had tried on AFOs and I could remember what it was like to walk properly again. So I would look into them if possible. I remember that there was a velcro sound and joking with the orthotist that people would be able to hear me coming down the hall and knowing who I was. It wasn't very noticable, but if it would really bother you, it's something to keep in mind. > > Hi Bob, > > I am interested in getting more info on the Noodle AFOs. Are you still finding them helpful and do you have severe foot drop? I am located in Canada and I am interested for myself and also my son and daughter. Could you also tell me the approximate cost? > > Warm wishes, > > > > > > > From: C m IDN > Sent: Saturday, August 28, 2010 11:42 AM > > Subject: Re: Noodle AFOs for your son > > > Lori, > > I just got a new type of AFOs called a Noodle. Guest guest
, Wade Bader's noodles are made from casts of your legs so they are not " off the shelf " . He even recast mine cause he didn't like how the first pair fit. I don't notice any velcro sound. He put a pad around the top of the AFO to help how it fit. Maybe that eliminated that sound. I'm sure there are similar AFOs that are off the shelf. These aren't so they fit my legs great. Bob > > > > Hi Bob, > > > > I am interested in getting more info on the Noodle AFOs.
