Guest guest
Dear Shanna, I'm sorry if I sounded militant. I meant only to sound committed to my program. I have received many, many letters from parents who want to know more about Floor Time. Specifics on the method are hard to find on the net and my section on Floor Time is an attempt to remedy that situation as well as to save me from having to send the info to each parent individually. It was never my intention to be critical of parents who have chosen behavioral programs for their children, but simply to present what I do and why I do it. My site is most certainly biased, but no more so than many sites promoting behaviorism. Keep in mind, too, that many of them are selling something. I am not. I have tried to be very careful to make it clear that my site expresses my opinions. You were right to wonder about my background with regard to ABA, since I didn't mention it in my post. One of my sisters has a master's degree in behavioral science and is a special educator. I also have a cousin who has a master's in education and has ten years of experience using DTT with developmentally disabled children. Both of these women, in addition to our pediatrician and our speech pathologist, recommended Greenspan's method for my daughter. It really has done wonders for her. I didn't mean to offend anyone who believes in ABA and is pleased with its effects on their child. I just chose a different method and it worked. Guest guest
You know what I say about ABA, the Greenspan method, TEACH, etc....if it works for your child, then do it! I don't think anyone on this list intends to come across as militant regarding what is the best method, but somehow, and this is probably because we all feel so strongly about our child and their recovery, it just seems that way when you read the written word.....one big draw back with this type of communication. ) Now in mvho, (my very humble opinion) one reason a specific method might work better than another with some children than it does with others, is possibly because there are so many degrees of autism and quite possibly different causes. So let's all keep an open mind and remember that we're all on this list for one reason....because we care so much about our little angels. -- June " Do little things with great love.
