Guest guest
Wheels, I think I know what you're talking about, though I only FEEL like I can't move, when in reality I can. It just doesn't happen automatically. About a year ago I started noticing when I wake from an afternoon nap I feel like Gulliver, and the Lilliputians have tied down all my limbs and I can't move. As I wake up I can start to move my limbs, but they feel very heavy. It actually takes me a couple hours to shake the heavy feeling. I have never felt this way first thing in the morning though. Only with naps in the afternoon. When I am fatigued, sometimes I'll think to reach out and grab something, and my arm doesn't reach. But I can eventually muster the energy to move my arm and reach for the item. Have the doctors told you what might have been happening? I'll definately mention this CK level with my primary care doc. Guest guest
O - Unfortunately, everyone was glad that it wasn't a stroke or heart attack and that the CK enzyme levels had been somewhat reduced. I've concluded that I had overworked my muscles hosting the family Labor Day party and chasing four grandkids. From what I read about CK some muscles became damaged to the point where the damaged muscles released the CK into the bloodstream. Regards. Guest guest
Here's what MDA has to say about CK. http://www.mdausa.org/publications/quest/q71ss-cktest.html Wheels Sent from my iPod On Oct 5, 2010, at 7:39 PM, " Oltmann " <joltman1@...> wrote: > Wheels, I think I know what you're talking about, though I only FEEL like I can't move, when in reality I can. Guest guest
Hi Wheels, That link is an excellent explanation for what is happening. The CK enzyme can be separated into 3 groups. CKMB is specific for heart muscle and used to be the primary test to see if someone was having a heart attack (now we use a test called Troponin). CKBB is still useful for finding out if the reason for the high CK levels is from the brain and due to a stroke. CKMM is much rarer to be high and is because of damage to skeletal muscle. This is usually seen in crush injuries, especially when a large area of the body has been involved and can actually be life threatening. I didn't realize that it could get to be so high because of CMT. Glad to hear you are ok.
