Guest guest
Hi Francine, Ir can cause muscle weakness and fatigue (just what people with CMT don't need more of) can also cause arterial problems with the heart, also kidney damage among others. Be sure your doctor knows you are taking the correct amount IF you absolutely need it. If you are taking it on your own, stick to RDA guidelines and do not 'megadose' it or anything else for that matter. Gretchen
Guest guest
Last fall, I was experiencing extreme muscle fatigue and the doctor discovered a Vitamin D deficiency. He put me on 25,000iu/week and the first couple of days it was like I was given new energy. Now I just feel normal. He said another month or so of the mega-dose, and then a daily supplement of 1000iu should be sufficient. Guest guest
Great! I have been taking 50,000 IU of Vit D once a week since end of October. My MD prescribed it b/c of deficiency. Guess I'll see if I can get in to see him before the scrip is up in 5 weeks so we can discuss it, and retest my levels now. Perhaps I need to take a lower dosage more frequently... Gretchen, I didn't see this on the CMTA list. Did I miss something? > > Hi Francine, > > Ir can cause muscle weakness and fatigue (just what people with CMT don't need more of) can also cause arterial problems with the heart, also kidney damage among others. Guest guest
Hi , No, you didn't miss anything. If a person with CMT has a low reading of Vit. D given by their doctor, and are on a theraputic dose, that is different then taking " megadoses " of it on your own 'to feel better'. Having said that, one more times, it is prudent to always remain cautious of anything in " megadoses " . I think the Medication Alert mentions something about megadoses in general. And remember, the Medication Alert doesn't have every medication, supplements or Vitamin listed, so you really need to be your own advocate and research side effects, adverse effects and interaction with medications. Pharmacists can be a big help with this and are more than willing to help. Gretchen
Guest guest
, There are a couple of things that you can do here… one of them is to expose yourself to more sunshine. Vitamin D is produced spontaneously by your body as a result of exposure to sunshine. Also milk is a good source of vitamin D. Hope that helps, . Guest guest
I've read you have to have cholesterol and all the omega's in perfect ratio in order for your body to absorb vitamin d. Also magnesium controls at least 300 enzymes in the body and without it we aren't able to metabolize all the other miners like potassium and trace minerals and also calcium will get deposited in the arteries and cause our bones to fuse. Guest guest
It is important to be careful with megadoses of any of the fat soluble vitamins. If your doctor has determined that you are deficient and has a treatment plan to bring you to where you should be it is important to follow instructions precisely. NEVER do megadoses of the vitamins A, D, E or K (just remember ADEK)unless under MD supervision. These 4 vitamins are the fat soluble vitamins, which means that they are stored in the fat and not excreted if overdoses are taken. Overdoses can be toxic (especially vit A). The reason you can take megadoses of vitamins B and C without harm is that they are water soluble and eliminated in your urine if you take more than your body needs. (Americans have the most expensive urine in the world!) Please see your doctor for advice before taking more than the recommended daily requirement listed on the label of these 4 - ADEK.
