Allowing oneself time

Hi Holli,

This is wonderful advice. I think I need to do this. I am building in self

care time into my evening routines, but have never thought about building in

" self sad time " . I think it might help me a lot. With all I do, I can get

frustrated and down. This sounds like an excellent management strategy.

Thank you for the tip,

Donna

Thanks, I didn't come up with it myself, another friend introduced me to the

idea. It's not something that I do with any regularity, either. I think we all

wax and wane with our emotions, depending upon a lot of different things

including hormone shifts, external stressors, sad events, frustrations. Some

days we can take it all in stride, some days it just all gets to be too much.

My friend who first introduced me to this concept said, " it's ok to feel down

sometimes, everyone does, the trick is not to let it take over. So when you are

feeling that way, give yourself permission to really feel it, wallow in it! But

give yourself a specified amount of time -- I'm just going to feel as bad as I

want to feel for the next hour.-- then pull yourself up and move on. "

Amazingly, after an hour (or whatever time cue you give yourself) you emerge

feeling a little cleansed and ready to take on whatever is going on. It's a good

way to purge. I guess what I'm saying is that it is not something I plan, but it

is something that I allow.
