Guest guest
Has anyone else come across when you go to the MDA clinics that you have to pay for your own co-payments now? That MDA block grant they give them is not picking them up anymore. Please let me know asap. Putting together a letter to be sent to National MDA. More letters that they recieve the more they can do. Guest guest
Each clinic is different. I have had wonderful experience with my MDA clinic, mine does not charge any co-pay. The clinic my grandson goes to also picked up the cost of his genetic testing this year, after contacting our local MDA rep. If you don't like MDA clinics don't use them. I hear alot of people complain about what they no longer get for free from MDA, I am glad they provide me with mdeical services I can't get anywhere esle in my area > > > > Has anyone else come across when you go to the MDA clinics that you have to pay > > for your own co-payments now? Guest guest
I've been to the MDA Clinic twice this year, once last April, and once last week. I never received a bill from the April visit (over and above what my health insurance paid) and I was not asked to make a copayment last week when I went. I think what some of you are finding may be regional variations, and I don't understand why unless there are local grants paying for services. I also asked my doctor to send me to a mobility specialist (a physical therapist)last year for an evaluation to get an electric scooter. My health insurance would not pay for the scooter. MDA did pay for it. I don't perceive any differentiation between diseases for MDA. There are forty or so diseases that they try to cover, and not many are muscular dystrophy. My recent experiences have been good. Sorry others have had trouble. Guest guest
I haven't been back to a an MDA clinic since I started on my surgeries but when I did go I always paid a co-pay and a portion of my braces. I can tell you that the MDA chapter in NH sucks. They don't even know that much about my CMT. What a waste of time. Hope >
Guest guest
i haven't ever used the MDA, although i am thinking of contacting them to see where the closest one to me is,and just what they do cover. i do think that maybe they might have local offices that may not have the grant money..i don't really know, maybe you can get something done, best of luck to you....tracey From: mark farruggia <farruggia1@...> Subject: Re: MDA Clinic co-payments Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010, 5:12 PM  Sherry What clinic do you go to? Guest guest
I go to the MDA clinic in East Tennesse, in Knoxville. I don't see any evidence that MDA has " dumped diseases. " I get their Quest Magazine which is still featuring articles covering CMT; some of their research is addressed to CMT, and they do send letters out saying when and why they need to cut back on some coverage (like AFO's and mobility equipment, I think for 2010). MDA seems pretty open about what it is doing as a charitable agency. I do send them contributions, regularly, because they obviously use the funds responsibly. Guest guest
I wonder if the co-payment procedure has something to do with whatever insurance carrier you have. I know each time we go to the MDA clinic they bill our insurance first, then pick up the cost of whatever is not covered. Just a thought... Guest guest
Hi Mark, I went to my local MDA clinic earlier this month and was not asked to pay a co-pay. They could still always bill me, I suppose. Last year I saw more people, including the nutritionist, and they billed me for seeing her. However, when I called to inquire, the billing person said that my insurance should have paid for that part, too. They resubmitted it and it was taken care of. No co-pay last year either. > > Has anyone else come across when you go to the MDA clinics that you have to pay > for your own co-payments now?
