Good luck Nick and will keep ya in my prayers that everything works out.

Surgery tomorrow

Hello everyone well the moment I've been waiting for will finally

arrive tomorrow. I haven't posted much cause I've been fighting with

Tricare Health Insurance to get surgery over with. Tomorrow I will

have my cervical spine surgery done. Long story as short as possible

cause I hate reading long things myself.

August of 2001 I had a pituitary adenoma removed via transphenoidal

approach (through nose). October 8th of 2001 I had sinus surgery.

January 30th 2002 the ENT had to remove a bone chip in the sinuses

causing a granuloma (in his office). Follow up sinus surgery was

recommonded and for good reason the previous ENT left more bone

chips up there from removing my turbinates. I had another ENT do

this in January of '03.

When I woke up I couldn't move my right arm I was in so much pain. I

had previously told him about bulging to herniated discs in my neck.

The way he positioned my neck during the 3.5 hour surgery made this

much worse. IMO from all the years working out and then all these

head surgeries in such a short period of time caused this. I had two

herniated discs with cord compression from c5-6 c6-7. I was placed

on everything from morphine to motrin.

I saw two neurosurgeons that recommended surgery right away.

Unfortunately I am under the Military healthcare system and they

wanted me to see their own Doctors and go for PT. Nothing worked and

because of the on going War they finally admitted they couldn't help

me at this time and would allow me to go out of network for surgery.

I chose to go back to my neurosurgeon who removed my pit tumor, Dr

Post at Mount Sinai. Well there you have it. If you all don't mind

please say a prayer cause I am scared even though I am looking to

get this over with. Thank you all. God Bless!

I don't think we understood what you were talking about and having questions

that we could not answer for you nor were we getting answers from you, we just

assumed we had another busybody(just wanting to know what all was going on maybe

an ins. co. checking in on someone here) we cant chance that sometimes I guess.

I really hope you get help with all your problems both physically and mentally.

I believe even with all the physical problems I am having 90% of it is mental.

My depression is because of my inability to do the things I once did and not be

able to work and provide anymore like I was, I had a job for 21+ yrs. and after

6 months I was gone, just like that. It has been very hard for me to take and

swallow. I am now though looking to things I can do instead of the things I cant

and it is turning me around some. The more I push myself that I can do this or

that increases my confidence and helps me mentally with the pain drowning it out

getting me to concentrate on something else besides my own problems. My family

has tried so hard and now I am finally coming around realizing that yes doing

something or concentrating on something surely does take your mind off of your

pains. I couldn't have told you that just 3-4 weeks ago. My injury was

Oct.23,2000 that long ago and I am finally coming around, you too will some day

and you will see. Right now yes it is such a dramatic change in our world. I can

feel I believe I would have some of your same worry's when it comes to

sexuallity. I too because of diabeties and meds have difficulty there also, and

my partner is very patient and loves me for me not for sex. I surely can

understand ok. WELCOME. I hope you understand what our fears and whatever when

you first came on to this forum. Sincerely chris

Hope this all has gone well for you today. I have my surgery next Monday,

the 17th. The way it was explained to me there is no choice about the

surgery, so I am trying to just go with it. I will be looking forward to

hearing how you are doing and how your recovery goes.

le,girl, you will not believe my operation,I went

in on the 10th,when they tried to bring me out,I had a

heart attack, spent 2 days in icc,6 days in two

different hospitals, had all kinds of tests done on my

heart and lungs,on oxygen at home at nite now,so weak

I can not stay up for long at a time, this will be the

only one I have on my ear, whether I need more or

not, there will not be any more.I do not know for sure

what the long range danmage is on me ,have to wait and

see.The main problem was they kept me under all day

and starved my heart for oxygen, mine is probably just

a flook,so don't let it worry you too much.sheila

You are right. Your operation is unbelievable. I am glad you have the energy

and composure to get to the computer. We will keep you in our prayers.

My surgery seemed to go pretty well on Monday. I spent the night in the

hospital and came home Tuesday. I am feeling more myself today. I have some

pictures of the operation, but will need to take them in for my post op

visit to understand what actually went on. I think they removed either the

malleus or incus or both ossicles and then rebuilt and repositioned the

incus with cartilage from behind my ear. Of course, they tell you all this

when you aren't quite with it, so I am not absolutely sure. My ear and part

of my tongue seem to be numb today. My post op is in about 2 1/2 weeks, so

any ideas for questions I need to ask, would be appreciated.

Im mostly hoping that I dont have to have the mastoidectomy because that will really put a damper on my water sports but if it needs to be done it needs to be done and Ill just live with it. Ill let you all know how it works out..thanks for the info thus far.

Hello All,

Well surgery was this morning and the

staff and doctor’s at Norton Audubon Hospital

here in Louisville

here fantastic. I’m a bit sore but not in a great deal of pain or anything,

Lortab really helps with that. Better living through pharmaceuticals is

my phrase of the week! He was able to remove the c-toma and did a small

mastoidectomy but did not do a canal wall down procedure which I am happy

about. I will have to have a follow up surgery next year to replace one

of my hearing bones that were destroyed by the c-toma which will most likely

improve my hearing a great deal.

All in all, the doctor and I both feel the

surgery went very well and now I’m home relaxing. I don’t go

back to work until the 28th even though he said I could go back on

Friday or Monday. I had decided to take some vacation time anyway just to

give myself an extended period of time to heal up.

Thanks to all of you for your concern and

support. I can’t explain how elated I was to find this board and

hear about everyone else’s experiences. I will certainly remain a

member of this forum so that I can also share my experience with anyone else

that may need to go through what we’ve gone through.

Thank you all,

in Kentucky
