Guest guest
Best of luck to you . We are all thinking of you and pray that this surgery ends the pain you have endured. I have yet to have surgery myself, and have been suffering about 8 years myself, L4-L5, again, best to you. RN Surgery Tomorrow I'm going to the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:30am to hopefully correct 10 years of misery. L5 is scheduled to be fused by Dr. Karl Swan & Dr. . Dr. Swan is the top neuro surgeon in my neck of the woods. He will be performing the clean out around L5, Dr will be installing the hardware which will consist of a Titanium plate and screws, some additional bone graft will also be performed. I'm curious how the pain amplification aspect of Fibromyalgia is going to play into the recovery, I suppose there is only one way to find out first hand. After the procedure I of course will be able to set off metal detectors, and I wonder if refrigerator magnets will stick to my lower back. Anywho I will be off the radar for awhile, hopefully everything will go as planned and I will get some of my life back afterwards.

Guest guest
hello I had my surgery last Wed and just got home last night, I had S1- L4-L5 fused with instrumentation. They almost lost me during surgery as my blood pressure dropped to under 30 but I made it though god willing. Right now they have me on percocet, fentanyl pain patch, lyrica as my left leg is numb, Valium and Flexiril znd trazadone to sleep. sorry at all my misspellings I am pretty drugged. I sleep best on my side and can only stay awake for about 30 minutes before I snooze off again. I had a trip to the ER last night only a few hours after I had gotten released because pain was unbearable. I am just hoping for a speedy recovery and lots of sleep so I can heal. > > I'm going to the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:30am to hopefully correct 10 years of misery. >
Guest guest
wow, you are feeling pretty loopy I imagine. : ) You still have unbearable pain despite being on all that pain medication?! I am having a fusion in 23 days so this freaks me out... is this what others have experienced a week or so after surgery? Guest guest
Yes Jen, I was so anxious in the weeks and days before surgery, especially as I scrubbed in on the same cases i was going to be having done, in the same room with the same doc. Very wierd. You may want to ask your PCP to put you on some mild anxiety med for the upcoming weeks. It will do you no good to get anxious. If anything it will impair your body's ability to repair itself as you will be excreting adrenaline all the time while you are stressing out. If you want to do it without a medication, try relaxation breathing, yoga/ awareness breathing , and other things to calm your mind. You will be fine, just take it one day at a time. Guest guest
Thanks . : ) I have taken Valium and Xanax in the past, so perhaps I will try that. I have almost completely weaned my son so I would like to wait until he's finished to start those kinds of meds again. But good idea. Guest guest
Well, the time has arrived. Tommorow is my surgery. I'm having numerous tendon transfers to support my foot roll as well as some hardware put in. They're also going to sever the tendon in my arch to relieve some of the high arch as well as sever the tendon in my toe toe relax the hammer toe. I have to say that I am extremely nervous. I had the surgery on my right foot 15 years ago and it went perfect. But that was when I was 25. I do however remember the pain and am not looking forward. I will be in the hopital for 3 days. After that it is 7 weeks, non weight bearing and 7 more of gradual w/ physical therapy. I've had my reservations. Half of me is worried that I may not regain the strength in my leg and that I will regret the surgery. The other half says that if I don't, 5 years from now I will be in excruciating pain and wished I did the surgery. The doctor says that If I don't do it now, don't do it because of the muscle loss later in life. Sooooo, here we go. If you don't mind, I'd like to make reports of my progress. This may be informative for those that are weighing the option. My surgeons name is Dr. Sigvard Hanson. He has alot of experience with working on CMT. Thanks, and wish me luck. defman

Guest guest
I sympathize with you. Counting down the hours to a surgery is always so stressful. It's such a relief when it's over.  Sending positive thoughts your way for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.  Looking forward to your updates.  From: defman <defman555@...> Subject: Surgery tomorrow Date: Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 2:28 PM  Well, the time has arrived.
