Guest guest
Faith, This isn't advice on AFOs, because I don't have them, but my in-shoe custom made orthotics under my feet really cushion and support. Plus keep my balance steady. Perhaps there is some kind of AFO with both foot cushion and leg support? Gretchen
Guest guest
Faith, I have an AFO that is very stiff to stand on. My orthotist made an orthotic to put on top of the brace and it gives me support on my arch and feels really cushy! Jackie
Guest guest
I found that a supportive foot orthotic is more important than the AFO worn. The foot orthotic should stabilize your ankle from twisting is either direction. Add an AFO to prevent foot drop, and stability is maintained in all three dimensions. Be sure that the shoe you chose has enough room to carry both the AFO and the orthotic. I found New Balance has shoes that handled both my high arch and 4E width. Don't be afraid to go up a size to get more room. Each half-size larger show allows a one-step narrower width -- 10 4E has the same width as a 10-1/2 3E. The orthotic will hold your foot in proper alignment and won't allow it ti creep forward. Regards.
