Guest guest
OK so I don't have braces, but I have taught Aquatic exercise to many people who do wear braces (not only for CMT but other reasons) We place a chair next to the ladder or lift. The braces are taken off, and water shoes are put in. These are rubber and have a grip. Or people can wear an old clean pair of tennis shoes like I do. If the person cannot manage the ladder (usually do to weight/size) or have mobility issues like say recovering from a stroke, we use the lift as needed. The therapist or trainer then works the lift which places the person right in the pool. It's reversed when the session is completed. Once the person has dried off her/his feet/legs, on go the braces. Very simple. Gretchen
Guest guest
Gretchen - Thank you for sharing your experience. I started to suspect I was making too much of it in my own mind and your suggestions help me to see this is likely the case. She could easily walk to the pool in braces with some shoe over them and then take them off and walk down a ladder. My daughter goes to a YMCA program and they swim sometimes. She really wants to be able to swim too so I want to help her be able to navigate that independently.
