Besides, strength in itself is over-rated. How much of your max-strength can you display in your specific event ? Prowess in the weight room does not equate performance in sports. Guest guest
Crossfit is a good general purpose conditioning program. Its mighty useless for advanced sportsman in just about any sport you can imagine. Dan Partelly Oradea, Romania > Is Crossfit considered *NEW* old school strength training program? I think it uses a lot of bodyweight and odd shaped objects as part of their training regime. > > > -- > > Antonowitsch > San , CA > > > > > > > > > > > Subject: Old School Strength Training > > To: supertraining > > Date: Saturday, September 27, 2008, 8:37 AM > > > > Hi, > > any resources available on the training systems used by > > old-school strongmen? Guest guest
One of the interesting reads of the old school is Farmer Burns - the famous 'catch as catch can' wrestler of the turn of the century. He doesn't advocate heavy weight training at all. He made exactly the same point as Dan. Guest guest
Thanks for the responses.I have already gone through Dinosaur training . However, I did not really think it was old school. He advocates infrequent heavy sessions to absolute failure. Whereas to my limited knowledge the oldtimers did more frequent sessions and almost never trained to failure. I did find this page with references to what some of the oldtime greats said: http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/259/Particularly amazing did I find the feats of the mighty atom http://www.mightyatomsuperhero.blogspot.com/ www.sandowplus.co.uk seems to be a good start. Thanks again, Kapil Vikramadithyan Bangalore, India.
