Guest guest
Then we need to know why Spring is called Spring. And Autumn is the real name for Fall (as I think EW is right about fall). I wonder if the seasons are more about Gods or Godesses. Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring? I have no idea where those names come from. Maybe I'll check out Wikopedia.  I had something I wanted to ask but I am having a senior moment and can't remember what it was. I know what it was ----- I bought one of those boxes from LTD and put strawberries in it and they are putting out flowers now. The box works great and is light enough where we could pull it around if we want to or from the summer to the winter for growing down here. We put the strawberries in partial shade so they don't die out. Hubby has been watering twice a day though the water under them is keeping them very well. I just got 2 more of them and put them together and just need to put in the potting soil and plant them and haul them to where we decide they will do well. I may screw it up, but this is a learning process. I am going to put in 3 corns and put 3 or 4 beans around the corn and then put squash at the bottom. It is not as big as the earth box, more like a junior one, but seems to be keeping them moist enough. In the other one, I am going to put in 2 tomatoes and one pepper. Do you think that putting carrots in the front of them will be okay or do you think it isn't deep enough for carrots? I want onions in too, someway. Don't want to put with strawberries as don't want to cross their flavor at all. Put blueberries in regular dirt which is mostly sand. Will be acid, but don't know about keeping it moist enough. Got one big one and 2 smaller ones. bought the larger one from Lowe's and ordered others from Pub. Clear House where the strawberries came from (they were bare root). I have the 3 Aerogardens planted and anxiously awaiting something to pop up from them. I planted salad greens, herbs and edible flowers. I bought an Aerogarden for my son's family and daughter's family for Christmas and got me another one for tomatoes. I got the salad greens for their Aerogardens. My charge account took a hit but I hope that they will like their Aerogardens. I got these on a buy 2 get 1 free and no shipping.  Anyway wanted to let know I got excited about how well the one box did. I don't know how strong the trellis is behind it, but appears fairly good and didn't need them for strawberries. May have to put more supports in for the beans. The fall is the real planting season so I'll experiment now and if successful, then the fall should be great. If we don't do well, then I'll try the fall and see. Thanks to my hubby for watering them every day. Haven't seen a water light on the aerogardens yet and I set them up a couple of days ago now. I've had luck with flowers before but don't know if there was anything other than sprouts that I grew that I could eat, other than a few little tomatoes and some chives which are over a year old and still growing. A few have a flower on them -- those are edible aren't they? Just clip off and put in a salad? Or are they not good that way?  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 9:00 AM Subject: Re: buckwheat lettuce - fail!  See I learned something new from EW. Guest guest
Spring as a word that names a season according to the Harvard Word Lore evolved from expressions like the " spring of a leaf " and the " spring time of the year " . The phrases described the new plant growth of the season following winter. Before the season was referred to as spring, it was called lenten from a word meaning " long " . The sun's path was higher in the sky and daylight time was longer. >Then we need to know why Spring is called Spring. And Autumn is the real name for Fall (as I think EW is right about fall).
