Guest guest
Hi Mark, Many hardware stores, such as Lowe's, have cabinet pull-outs that aren't very expensive. There are generally two types - the kind that is installed on top of existing shelves and the type that replaces existing shelves. To see an example of what I mean, go to www.lowes.com and enter item # 87560 and then # 278207. The advantage of these is that the outer cabinet structure isn't changed, so it's much less expensive than a remodel. However, new cabinets with pull-out drawers would be pretty cool! >> > >
Guest guest
Thanks . Lowe's website is not working well today so I'll save this and go back later. Mark > > >
Guest guest
Ok, I got in this time. The second item looked really interesting. Kind of limited on what you can fit on it. Guess I am going to need a BIG addition when I do that kitchen. Hope the money tree in the backyard has a good crop year! Mark > > Thanks . Guest guest
I dont feel like doing much of anything in the kitchen....used to love to cook and was my favorite room in the house. Now that I'm in a chair its not fun to cook nor may favorite place to hang out. The kitchen cabinets, stove come up to chest level ....not fun! Forget about the upper cabinets! This is an Old farm house and the previous owner was very tall! Geri > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Mark,  To maximize space and have more stability, a pullout shelf or drawer is definitely better than these baskets.  In one home we lived in, there were pullout drawers and they were very nice. The useable space was reduced due to the melanine sides, but it wasn't a big issue. They also had a very tall pullout pantry door with a multi-shelf metal basket unit. It was my least favorite space because the useable space was very reduced and I couldn't put heavy things in it without worrying they might fall when I pulled it out. The lazy susan in the corner was great, however, as was the trash can pullout.  Where we live now, there the owners had installed pull out shelves with no sides. This is incredibly difficult for me to manage, as I have to use my thumb and forefinger to pull out the shelf, which really means I have to ask someone to do it. I spoke to a contractor about installing sides on the shelf and it was going to be $75 per shelf and we have so many I just decided to put my stuff in the front and my husbands stuff in the back.  A pullout drawer or solid shelf with sides is the best. I was only showing the baskets as a less expensive option, in lieu of a remodel, for inaccessible space. However, if you are going for the remodel, you'll definitely want to do it up right...then get out that fertilizer for the backyard tree!  > > > >
Guest guest
I redid my kitchen with pull out drawers. I can see everything now and that beats sitting on the ground to see what is in the bottom. I still need help lifting stuff from the bottom. > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
When we built our new home 6 years ago, we made sure that all the drawer's/cupboards were pull out's. One of the salesmen at one of the home builder places told us " nobody puts the pull out shelves in anymore " . We let him know in a heartbeat that he was crazy for even saying that!! I absolutely love the pullout's--they are wonderful. Our shelve's all have sides on them too. Best wishes in your remodel! > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks ! Ah, to dream. It will happen, some day... Of course, I have a HS Junior right now... college in a year and a half... If only I could fertilize that tree! I can't see the ground yet - it is still under several inches of snow! We have not been able to use our front or back doors since 12/26. I am so done with this, but 8 to 10 inches more coming tomorrow! Yay!
