Guest guest
I took Celebrex and loved it. Took most of the in between pain completely away. But we have a new Insurance r, and they will not cover Celebrex? SO I am now on Mobic, been on it for about 3 weeks, and starting to bruise all over, I know I need to call the Dr on Monday, but I just hate to go thru changing AGAIN! SO i understand how you feel, but after the break=in period Celebrex worked like a charm, I took it for 3 years with not apparent adverse reaction. I tried Vioxx and it flared my Asthma. Mobic just doesn't seem to work as well. Hope this helps. Gentle Hugs & prayers, Carol M. in CA
Guest guest
I have not taken Celebrex but I used to take Vioxx. Loved the stuff! It definitely was helping me more than the practically half bottle of over-the-counter med's I currently consume daily! LOL! I've been told Celebrex is similar & that is probably what my doctor will put me on Monday until I get to the rheumy. I know the Vioxx truly helped (over time) with my migraines! I wouldn't worry about being too paranoid...one of the side effects of some of these drugs is literally death! How can you not be paranoid?! LOL! Guest guest
I had a bleeding ulcer from Aleve, so I'm afraid to take the regular NSAIDs. I did try salsalate, but it didn't help my pain and gave me stomach pains worse than when I had the ulcer. So I do take Celebrex, but less than you do. I take 100 mg twice a day. I wouldn't want to increase mine because it raises my blood sugar, and I have diabetes. Bextra helped me much more than Celebrex does, and I would gladly still be taking it if I could get it. We have to weigh the benefits and risks. I now have some Tramadol to take when I have extra pain. Guest guest
If your ITP is no longer in remission, your doctor is probably switching you to Celebrex because, theoretically, it is not as likely to interfere with your platelet function as naproxen is. Guest guest
I love my celebrex. I was recently forced off it for 2 weeks and could barely function.  I take a daily aspirin and 200 mg of celebrex. I could not walk since my knee kept collapsing. We added 5 of predisone, after a few days I was bleeding internally. Fortunately, I did not require transfusion.  I mistakenly halved my ptotonix ( nexium) at the same time and my stomach could not handle it. I am now on double protonix and celebrex. No prednisone...yet.... The drug is wonderful but must have medical follow up. God Bless... Guest guest
Hi, Bob. Compared to traditional NSAIDs, Celebrex (celecoxib) is very expensive. In terms of pain relief, it is not superior to traditional NSAIDs. Celebrex was developed because traditional NSAIDs can cause serious gastrointestinal side effects (e.g., GI bleeds), especially over the long term. While Celebrex may be somewhat safer (the jury is still out) for the GI tract, it may increase the risk for cardiovascular events. Guest guest
I have been on Celebrex for some time now. I do find it a quick pain relief but I know I feel worse when I do not take it. I do not have health insurance so I applied to the drug company and got patient assistance and they send three month's supply for free for me to pick up at my dr's office. Most drug companies have some kind of program like this for the uninsured and low income. This is the first time in my life i have had to apply for any assistance of this kind but it is better than going without. Pat in So. Guest guest
Valerez and group;  You got that right ! I am so happy to hear about aid for those less fortunate.  I went to the mental health cause of crying all the time. In fact I am sad now I am so glad I will see her the 22.  Anyway. I was getting meds from the mental health at the time cause I had no insurance at the time.  The mental health doctor said here's the phone number to the company that makes your meds call them and ask to send us some meds cause you cant afford them  I said WHAT. You want me to ask for something for free. She giggled and said sure go try they might help.  Well that was a little embarrassing for me. I did it and it was kinda hard. but i ask politely for some meds to be sent to the mental health for me.  On my next visit the company had sent the meds for me. My mental health doctor was real happy to show me. I was so surprised. So I will say again. You got that right !  When in need there is no shame to ask for help.  gentle hugs Clora  ****************************************  gentle hugs Clora  *****************************************  > Whats the opinion of Celebrex ? > > Bob
Guest guest
Hi Clora, I didn't know until I came to this group that there was medication that could help me to relief the pain. My doctor tried shots but it did not do any good at all. I tried over the counter medications but it did not help. I have been trying since Feb. to see why I was in such pain. At first it was only on my right arm. At that time they thought it might be tennis elbow. When I went to the specialist the ex-ray showed some arthritis in my right arm. It was not long after that it went to my left arm as well. The injection did not help me. Only for a little while. My doctor just put me on the medication in December. Talk to you later. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of CLORA Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2008 4:29 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Celebrex and group; Hi . My name is Clora bet you seen a lot of my post haaaaaa. Guest guest
My husband has severe back issues and he was on Celebrex for 4 months. The Dr finally took him off it and put him on DayPro & Vicodin (as needed) as the Celebrex wasn't helping him at all. My Rheumy hasn't put me on it. All he put me on for my RA pain is Tramadol. On days when Tram isn't enough- almost every day- he told me to double my doses of Aleve (labeled at 1 tablet per dose but my Doc specifically told me to take 2 at a time instead). I wouldn't try this without speaking to your Dr first. When we discussed this issue he told me to stop taking my Advil because " it will tear your tummy up much faster. Guest guest
Hi Pat: I know it is so hard without insurance, but I am glad you contacted the drug company so you could get the meds. you need. I agree, better to call and know they will help you. I had to go on assistance many years ago, and swallowed my pride, and did what I had to do to get the much needed help I needed. I never regretted doing it. I am praying for you to have pain free days. Take care of yourself. I care. Guest guest
I got a bleeding ulcer from taking double does of Aleve, as I had been instructed to do. So then my doctor put me on Bextra, which really helped. I was sorry that it got such a bad rap because of Vioxx. I was switched to Celebrex, then. My insurance company put it on their top tier, meaning the co-pay would be $50 a month, so I switched to arthritis-strength acetominiphin. I have tramadol for my back pain, but I'm afraid to take it much. Guest guest
Hi Clora, Until I started to have some pains in my right arm I did not understand how bad pain can really be. But now that it has happened I do understand. This group has helped me more than you will ever understand. Because now I know that there are others like me. And that we support each other. That does help a lot. My pain started in December 2007. After the pain did not leave me I went to see my doctor in Feb. 2008. He told me to be ice on the arm. I tried for months to help the pain with ice and heat. It did no good. I went back to see him in June and told me that he thought it was tennis elbow. In July 2008 I called his office up and they sent me to a specialist. The specialist did an ex-ray of my right arm. The ex-ray showed that it was arthritis in my right arm. He gave me an injection in my arm. At first it was doing some good. I made a decision to go back to my primary doctor. It was then that my doctor finally put me on some medication for my arthritis. It not pain free However it not as painful to me since I started taking the medication. Before I was not even getting a good nights rest. Now I am. When I turned 45 years old that is when the pain started. At first I did not know if the pain was some kind of effect from the foot operation that I had to remove a growth at the bottom of my foot. But I don't think it is.
