Dear Mr. Beckingham,

Many thanks for your correspondence to the Right Honourable

Harper, Prime Minister of Canada. The letter you forwarded to him has

been sent to my attention for an answer, via the Honourable Leona Aglukkag’s

office.

We are pleased to hear that there is active research going on in

diseases of the neuromuscular system and that a study in patients with

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type A is now ongoing. We are very interested in

such studies and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I would like to take the opportunity to indicate to you that,

while in Canada we would like to have investigators participate in such studies,

we can not solicit submissions to initiate studies. However, you could help in

a variety of ways which include speaking your neurologist directly and asking

him that he/she pursue this avenue through his professional associations.

You could also contact me at the Biologics and Genetic Therapies

Directorate of Health Canada to discuss this matter of concern to you. I will

be happy to provide you with the needed information and guidance on how you

could help to make happen a study in Canada. You may wish to respond to this

contacts with the company that is sponsoring the trials.
