Guest guest
I recall someone else who grows their own tea and probably has one of those tea balls say she just added stevia and her tea blend and chopped it up and put it in the ball an brewed it together. I may have seen it on You tube. I didn't know if it had an after taste at all. That s why I can't handle truvia which comes from Stevia I believe; I can't handle the after taste. Neither can my husbad. He won't drink anything with the aspartame or anything other than sugar or Splenda (or Costco's equivalent of Splenda). I am better off with Splenda than sugar I think. I even read that the Agave Nectar isn't good for us. I can't remember now why that was. I figured it was better than honey. Maybe the Agave had high fructose in it. I plan to grow some Stevia and am sure I have some seeds ordered. I figured I'd try it to see if I could handle it more directly. I am always open to instruction as to how to do that - from the ground up.   Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 10:12 AM Subject: Re: First time sportier  Do you mean you just plan to brew the stevia leaves as you make tea, hoping it will sweeten, or do you mean to make a tincture with it? I have grown stevia for years, and did make a successful tincture, but I prefer to just dehydrate the leaves and powder them. If you give them a quick blanch before dehydrating, it seems to develop the sweetness and remove the bitter tasted, but they only need a very quick dunk in hot water before drying. > > Thanks for the info. What kind if sprouter do you find most useful and what kind of trays? Sunflower seeds, chia and flax would need soil or a medium right? Would the regular seed growing trays work for those? > > I forget who it us who is growing stevia. If you've not used the green stevia powder before it's quite different than using the store products which are mixed with other agents. Green stevia should be allowed to settle after mixing into say, iced tea or other beverage or it will taste pretty awful. Very tiny amounts will suffice. in smoothies it should be blended in with your other ingredients. > I'm going to try brewing a few whole > Leaves along with tea bags- see if that method works. > Deb > Sent from my iPod >
