Guest guest
I am the one who made that error. I knew the dolphin fish had another name. It has 2 other names. However, pompano is not one of them. However, another site talked of Pompano dolphin fish but it is the blue dolphin so I don't know why they call it Pompano dolphin fish. This may be whee I got that information.  This is the pompano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachinotus_carolinus That long name is the actual name but Pompano is what it is called. I found no other name but they do roam on both sides of Fla. and in other countries as well. I had heard that they were getting scarce here along the east coast, but then they indicated that this year there was a bigger amount of them. This is the Pompano Dolphin Fish which is more accurately Dolphin fish or Mahi Mahi yet it is separate so dn't know if it is a specific kind or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coryphaenidae  Now the Dolphin fish is listed and lists mahi mahi and it differentiates the Pompano dolphin fish and the Dolphin fish. But the fish look more alike than the actual Pompano. So there is a Pompano fish and a Pompano dolphin fish. This is the end of my fish education for the day, I hope. It is too confusing, like searching out ancestry and half of them are named or ph or some other name that every related family has the name of one of their forefathers. Anyway, here iis the session on the Dolphin fish.  http://www.safmc.net/FishIDandRegs/FishGallery/DolphinFish/tabid/284/Default.asp\ x  Yet I may go back and look up more abot these. I do like eating mahi Mahi. I've never had Pompano. With some fish some restaurants are switching out some cheaper fish - I think it is theGrouper that is ordered but is not always given. I guess you have to know the taste of what you order.  I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything that is free of hazards. Maybe I should start going to a dock side fish store where I can buy it off the fishing boats. But there may be something with that, too, as have to keep it cool out there. Of course as little as I eat fish, it might not make such a big difference. I don't like any fish that tastes like fish orhas that dark looking color to it. i want white fish. maybe I just need to eat it at restaurant once a week. Maybe I'll go get some mahi mahi at Bonefish Mac's.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 8:20 AM Subject: Re: dolphin fish  Melody, Dolphin fish and pompano aren't the same thing. I've caught pompano in Galveston, and mahi mahi don't live in these waters, or if they do, they're way offshore, and are much larger, more slender fish. You're bringing back memories for me, too, I love to go to Galveston and fish off the jetties! H.
