Guest guest
We really do feel fortunate that we live in the school district we do. It is very small. I'm not sure all of Iowa is so accomodating. The administrators and I had to battle a few times until they understood that I would not back down. They did insist that Haylee try the early special needs classroom for her ABA first. She was the only autistic child and the only one doing ABA. There were too many distractions so they let us move her program home. They will also pay for ABA through the summer. It's pretty hard to get summer services around here. It doesn't hurt that my husband is an attorney. He isn't very involved but the administrators know his position. We also have great support from our Area Education Agency's autism team. Our school has done everything they recommend, and they're on my side. Supplements: Haylee was not able to tolerate the super-nu thera for a long time. If it is bothering Bridget, start off very slow. 1/4 tsp first, then work up. I take Haylee to a lady at a health food store that does " muscle testing " to determine which vitamins to use/introduce and when. This lady used to be an RN and when the medical field failed to help her with her fibromyalgia she sought out more natural therapies. I didn't find any help through doctors or nutritionists and by some act of God I stumbled upon this lady (Rosemary). At first I thought it was all pretty strange until I researched the " Sunderland Protocal " for treating autism. Most of the things suggested in this program were things Rosemary had already suggested for Haylee. We had to get Haylee's body healthy first before she could tolerate some of the supplements, SNT, cod liver oil, yeast treatments. Haylee's body was full of toxins from undergoing chemotherapy and vaccines so we had to detox first. Haylee whines all the time too and does a lot of echoing. It takes a lot of patience as you are well aware. Sounds like you have a neat family. My 6 year old son is beginning to get really resentful of Haylee. We try to give him lots of his " own " time with us but its just hard to have a sister with Autism. Haylee tries really hard to interact with him but if I'm not directing their play then he will have no part. You're so lucky to have Errin to help teach Bridget social skills. Will Bridget be in the regular classroom all day when she starts Kindergarten? Guest guest
Hi. I used to be a part of an egroup called aut2behome. They have lots of information about homeschooling programs to use. Families of people that homeschool their autistic children. ABA has done marvelous things for my daughter. Where do you live? Our Area Education Agency paid for a Lovaas consultant to come and train everyone involved with our daughter in ABA. She comes 4 times a year to help us update her program. We live in a small town too, 1500 people, in Iowa. I have found most of my info off the internet and have read lots of books on the gfcf diet and ABA. You can do it. Read the book " Let me hear Your Voice " for inspiration. For ABA direction I have used 2 books " Behavioral Interventions for the Young Child with Autism " and " A Work in Progress " . Both books have programs written out for you. I have never found a doctor to help me. I've learned that it's all up to you. Noone has the same incentive to make your daughter better. Good Luck.
