Guest guest
Yes, my brain MRI showed enlarged ventricles, so I was told. This was in the 80s some time due to a concussion. The neuro just told me the ventricles were enlarged...it had nothing to do with CMT or the concussion. What did I do? Freaked out for about 2 days, got over it just kept moving forward with my life. What did the Neuro do or say? Nothing. And I never saw him again, nor has any neuro since then found that to be of significance. Gretchen CMT 2 Recessive perhaps or an unknown mutation 58 So. Calif. Guest guest
I am not a doctor, but... When my CMT1A was present, but still undiagnosed, I had a full MRI series, brain through spine. It was completely normal, aside from the slight spinal curvature common to CMT folks. This is in contrast to, say, my longtime girlfriend, who has MS, and whose annual MRIs consistently show lesions on her brain. CMT is a peripheral neuropathy, and CNS abnormalities are not typical of the spectrum of CMT diseases. Finding CNS abnormalities in an MRI would be a good reason to keep looking for new and different underlying causes. Guest guest
When my son was 4 they did an MRI on his brain because he was having alot of problems with his sinuses and having headaches. They found out that he had a " fatty " deposit that rested between the 2 hemispheres. No one was concerned. He wasn't diagnosed with CMT until he was 9. The last MRI he had - the deposit was gone... What kind of abnormality are your docs seeing? > > Have any of you with CMT or children CMT have a brain MRI with anything abnormal showing up ? Guest guest
I forgot to mention that research has shown that in CMT X there can be lesions on the brain. Gretchen

Guest guest
I had a brain MRI for persistant migraines: everything normal and accounted for. I later had a CT scan because of the numbness/burning sensation on my left face (when it first started) to rule out a stroke, again, everything normal. Guest guest
Hi - yes. I had an MRI that showed a lesion in my brain. Saw 2 neurosurgeons, multiple versions of MRI of the brain and spine and lumbar puncture. No diagnosis, basically watch and see what happens. Based on the location and look of the lesion it was considered highly unlikely to be related to CMT (which included opinions from Dr. Reilly and Dr. Shy - both of whom I can't speak highly enough of!). However, I have heard from both Dr. Reilly and Shy that there are some abnormalities that may show up on MRIs in patients that have CMT (I believe particularly in type 2) - patients are asymptomatic and I believe nothing needs to be done. I'd be happy to share with you an informative email I got from Dr. Shy on brain abnormalities in CMT2 patients if you want to email me. 30, CMT2A > > Have any of you with CMT or children CMT have a brain MRI with anything abnormal showing up ? Guest guest
My MRI was perfect. My doctor said I had the most beautiful brain he had ever seen. I try not to be vain about it but you know its hard to be humble when your brain is so beautiful.
