Guest guest
Hi Debra - Are you using a cane on the right side? My PT re-fitted the cane height on my right side which was positioned way too high. After a short time I could barely lift my right arm. Much of my weight was being put on my right arm causing the pain and numbness. Such a simple solution (in my case) of re-adjusting the cane for my height stopped the pain. Just a thought? Guest guest
Not so sure about the short burst of pain before it happening, but I'm pretty familiar with the 'heavy to lift' sensation. For me I think it's related to the muscle fatigue I feel. When I'm tired, it's worse. When I've done any kind of extra activity, it's worse. Guest guest
Hello Debra, I have short periods like this when lying on my side where the underneath arm has weight on it from my torso. It works out if I move it around for a bit. It's probably just compression of the nerves in the arm and nothing has happened so far to make it more than a temporary thing of say 5 minutes. 75 EdM from N
Guest guest
Hi Clyde, I do not walk with a cane any more. I use a walker as I have had a hip replacement done on left hip and I am having problems with right knee. I did have a very busy day that day, went shopping for dinner, vaccumed the house, moved snow around so it would melt faster and cooked for 11 people so I am hoping thats all it was. Thanks for answering my message. Have a great weekend. ) Debra
Guest guest
Hi Debra. Yes, that has happened to me. The first time was my left arm and it was after doing some serious work in my cactus garden cutting large leaves off an agave cactus (taller than me) from the lowest section at the ground. It felt just like when I herniated a disc and lost the use and feeling of my leg so my assumption was that I must have done it again in my neck. MRI of the neck was neg, all other serious things were ruled out and I was referred to a neurologist. By the time my appointment came around about 3 weeks later it was starting to come back. It came back fully within a few months and hasn't been a problem since. I also had a similar thing with my right hand and wrist which I attribute to using the computer mouse. I use a lot of the same techniques as carpal tunnel treatment (wrist brace, wrist cushion on the mouse pad, etc) and it is less of a problem than it used to be. I would advise just waiting it out, since that usually works -- but not always. Apparantly with my leg I was in danger of permanent nerve damage (and it never did really come back 100%) because I was waiting for the nerve to come back instead of getting the surgery I needed. I guess for me it's: rule out bad stuff, then wait. Holli CMT 1a, 47 Tarzana, CA
Guest guest
Debra, For no reason at all, I had little 'flickers' of shoulder to arm to hand pain. Nothing came on suddenly, but over the course of a few months and too much Naproxen, I was at the orthopedist's office where I discovered I was a candidate for Rotator Cuff surgery. I'm very active, garden, carry, lift, drag stuff, move stuff (including furniture) houseclean, exercise, bla bla and etc. After the surgery and PT were completed, my shoulder was 100% and none of that 'flickering' pain.
