Guest guest
, the offer of a scooter is super nice, esp. a small one that she can bring into her dorm room or apartment and tootle off to classes or the library on long days of class/study. You shouldn't worry so much about . She will be fine, and probably better than fine if she figures she is making it on her own (without too much parental interference). She's obviously very bright and very resourceful. Sherry >

Guest guest
, Thanks very much for the Berkley website from their Office for Disability Services. I forwarded the part about information for individuals with mobility-based disabilities to our UT Ofc of Disability Services and suggested that they build a website with this type of info (I checked and none existed here at UT). Haven't heard back yet though! Sherry > >
Guest guest
Oh my gosh Sherry you are right! If only I could stop worrying. I just hate this part of my personality. Worry worry worry... When I am not worrying I am wondering what I should be worrying about.
Guest guest
, I went back to university in my 40s on a scooter and did fine as long as I knew that the campus was accessible where I needed to go. Now, with the ADA and every university and college having an Office for Disabled Students (they will likely have a map of the accessible campus), she can charge the scooter overnight in her room and be all set to go the next morning. The nice thing about a scooter is that you aren't so dog tired from walking the miles of campus every day and you don't get as anxious trying to make it to class on time when you can't walk as fast or as steadily as others can. Thirty years later I still have nightmares about not being able to get to class on time. I wish her all the best and I'll bet by Christmas she'll love it. She could possibly hook up with a student right away who has been there a couple of years and who uses a scooter and she'll learn what's what in no time. Remind her that the first year can be the most difficult. After that you get your bearings and it's pretty smooth sailing. C.
