Barb,

You know when I was 14 I had an Adult Neurologist. Even tho technically I was a

" teen " and I guess some people would consider that pediatric. However, my whole

life, from the beginning of diagnosis I always had the very best in doctors. I

think I left the pediatric world when I was about 11. So I guess I am saying

that I feel Dr. Scherer is a good person for you to contact at least anyway. He

just may see your daughter, or can refer you to a ped. neuro if he feels the

need.

I have met Dr. Scherer and like I said he knows his stuff.

I don't know why, but it seems like I have been getting more private emails

about CHOP doctors - to the negative. So you're not alone.

Well he may still be good for adults. I think they have some type of partnership

with CHOP (they mention it on their site) so they may be obligated to send kids

to CHOP.

Hey guys, don't give up on Dr. Scherer. He is AWESOME. So is Dr. Finkel.

We too stopped going to CHoP, but that was mainly because we were stuck

in the orthopedic world and they were pushing surgery. It was not until

after we went to Detroit for the first visit that I learned there was a

CMT clinic/doctor on the neuro side at CHoP. I might have tried there

had I known, but the ortho side had turned us off for my son. To much of

a push to rush into surgery (which Dr. Shy felt strongly opposed to

doing).

I do know a very prominent and active CMT family that swears by the CHoP

docs for their child, and that child is just recovering from another

surgery, and the family is just as pleased as ever with them!

I would not know one way or the other if there is any " agreement "

between the two sides, I just know Dr. Scherer sees only adult patients.

I too met him at the same conference that Gretchen did, he has been a

guest speaker at the Support and Action Group I facilitate, and I have

met him on at least one other occasion (but not as my physician). I

would never think twice about going to him or recommending him, but only

to an adult patient.

My nephew recently went to Baltimore. I am not sure who he saw. I have

met Dr. Hoke from there, and have heard a lot of good about a pedi-neuro

there, but I cannot remember her name... My nephew's experience was

mixed, and his son was sick that day so he did not get to go for an

eval, so I really have no idea about the pedi-neuro there. We are all

going down to MD for the weekend for my other great-nephew's birthday,

so I will try and ask more about his visit.
