Guest guest
Let me second getting off effexor, oh my gosh it was awful. I started taking a B complex and just started EFAs, I feel so good (ok I started exercising a little too, not much though) But even before exercise I started the B complex and saw a difference in 2 days, my side effects coming off the effexor would go away about 2 hours after taking the vitamin and stay gone for about 12 hours About the sleep- I was put on effexor for depression caused by sleep deprivation, this is something I couldn't change, or rather didn't know how to fix, as it was my son who never slept, after putting him on GFCF diet it was much better. His sleep schedule is still less than to be desired but at least now I can cope since I started the B and the EFA [ ] Re: antidepressants I always went OFF my antidepressants before getting pregnant, although I WAS on them when I got pregnant with my first (an " oops " ). I say do whatever you can to stay off of them, but in the long run you might need to make a tough decision and take some Zoloft. I will tell you this: I went off of my last (and will always be my last!) antidepressant 2 months ago. It was HELL coming off of Effexor. 6 months prior to going off meds, I started taking Omega 3 fatty acids religiously. I feel better OFF of antidepressants than I ever did ON them. I credit the EFAs 110%. I use Nordic Naturals Complete Omega. I think it was Dr. Mercola who stated he thought many cases of Autism could be prevented if expectant moms took EFAs before and during pregnancy/nursing. Don't know if it can be that simple, but the essential fatty acids are certainly deficient in our diets. I have a great friend who took Zoloft while pregnant with 2 of her 3 kids. Both are not Autistic. They do have a speech issue. Her oldest also had some small issues with speech clarity, so it is likely not the Zoloft. I suppose you aren't asking if zoloft can cause Autism. Exercise, eat well, take EFAs and get proper amounts of sleep. Unless you are at risk for hurting yourself or others, I'd advocate staying away from antidepressants. Guest guest
. I took Celexa while I was pregnant with my second son. He is the normally developing one. I was on it before I got pregnant. I tried to get off of them at my OB/GYNs urging but I was way to depressed when I tried. Guest guest
> Has anyone on this group ever taken antidepressants while pregnant? > I am extremely depressed!! Nothing is working for me at all!! My OB > wants me on Zoloft. Any comments? Seven years ago I took Zoloft for all 9 months of my pregnancy, but decreased the dosage. The prenatal vitamins and estrogen greatly improved my mood, but I still wanted what I perceived as a hedge against postpartum depression. It never happened, and my son's waning negative affect appears strictly mercury-related. My chronic clinic depression has receded drastically after 23 years; in retrospect it worsened after dental work. Two years ago I started drinking a protein shake that contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids... everything but the kitchen sink. Now I've been off Zoloft for 18 months. Nutrition and exercise are SO important, as others have advised. But if you feel yourself slipping, don't be ashamed to try the Zoloft. Keep the dark thoughts at bay and stay alive. Guest guest
, I'm off to take my son's B complex. I wish I had your advice BEFORE I went off Effexor. My brain LITERALLY felt heavy during the " discontinuation phase " (what the drug makers lovingly call withdrawal). Not a good feeling to turn your head while driving and have your eyes/brain follow 1 second later. Utterly creepy. What is the mix of your B complex? Guest guest
CLO is just short for Cod Liver Oil. That can be bought nearly anywhere these days, but you should buy only high quality oils with a recent production date on the bottle. Your local health food store should stock some: Nordic Naturals, Carlson's, Eskimo Oil (might only be on-line). Those are all EXCELLENT brand names that guarantee themselves to be mercury free. Fish oil (from the meat and not the liver of the fish) is also available just about anywhere. Seems that all areas now have a GNC store or another larger supplement supplier. I would avoid any bottle that doesn't tell you exactly where the oil is coming from. Some will say a " blend " of oils and don't list from what fish. Also, PACIFIC and/or NORWEGIAN oils are cleaner. They might say " ARCTIC " (OK). I buy my oils from www.omega-direct.com Omega Complete, Cod Liver Oil capsules and Children's DHA are what I use from this site. I also buy Carlson's Cod liver oil from my co-op. Carlson's isn't as expensive as Nordic Naturals, I believe. I don't know what is in Coromega, but it certainly sounds like Omega 3/6 blend. http://www.mercola.com/2004/feb/14/omega_3_depression.htm http://www.mercola.com/2001/sep/8/omega_3.htm I included two articles from www.mercola.com The second link is older information (2001), but it has an excellent overview of the role of EFAs in our body and our children's brain development. I've been taking a lot of vitamins lately and decided to use a pill box that has each time of day so I wouldn't forget any pills. I've been doing this for a week now, and just now realized I forgot to put my antidepressants in it! So I haven't been taking them for the past week. If I was going to have withdrawal, I assume it would have happened by now? I've been taking prozac 10 mgs and wellbutrin 150 mgs for months now. I was planning on weaning off them but if I don't have to worry about withdrawal maybe I'll just toss them now? I was considering starting 5-HTP or St. 's Wort after stopping them, if needed. I've been on antidepressants for almost 20 years now so I'm a little nervous about stopping everything. And I really wasn't planning on cold turkey. > ==>, that is terrific news! Dr. Weston Price was right, nutrition handles so much, including depression and anxiety! Wow! I wouldn't look back . You have just received a gift from Mother Nature (me and Dr. Price too). Yippee!!! God didn't make any stupid bodies! Doctors, drugs companies, etc. are fear mongerers. They try to make you scared to stop taking toxic/poisonous drugs!! It's all about the money, and not about health at all. You should be more scared taking them. To keep the fear alive they tell you all kinds of things: 1) " we don't know the cause " (I do! It's lack of or an imbalance in nutrition and too many toxins!) 2 " you can't do anything about it " (Yes you can per Dr. Price.) 3) " it's uncurable " so you must take drugs for life to save your life! (The body heals itself naturally IF we treat it right!) 4) " it's in your genes and you have no power to change it " (Per Dr. Price proper nutritions changes DNA/genes.) 5) " something horrible could be happening to you and you wouldn't know about it " (Oh really? I'd rather die of natural causes than from poisons, drugs, pain and suffering medicine puts people through. Even their tests can be gruesome, and false.) I know that I feel good, I'm healthy, I'm alert, happy, etc. so the last thing I'd want to do is trust them to tell me if something is wrong or not! If it ain't broken, don't fix it! So going off that cold- turkey would not be a problem, according to my son's recent pdoc (short for psychiatrist). It will take about 4-6 weeks, I believe, for it all to clear out of your system. I would not take SJWort until that time is up. 5-HTP is a natural form of serotonin. It has worked well for me when SJWort failed to work anymore. I have gotten jittery from both of them before so I have to be careful. Good luck coming off the a/ds. I tried that with my kids but my oldest went right over into mania. So he's on a lower dose of a different antidepressant now and a low-dose mood stabilizer. But it's still less than he was on when I started weaning them. We'll try to wean again after awhile, after the diet and supplements have done more detoxing of his system. Cathe

Guest guest
, One more thing: I have suffered from depression from birth, it seems. As I continue on the diet, I notice that I feel more stable and not so down. The true test will be in the late winter next year as we just moved north from the sunny (read: too hot for me!) south. B vitamins are good to combat depression. I've recently increased my niacin and have felt it clearing out my brain, seriously. It's a wild sensation. I think Vit. D (sunshine) is good to combat depression, also. Cathe

Candida toxins could be collecting in those areas too, along with toxins from foods, drinks, the environment, drugs, radiation from the sun and other sources, etc., etc., and the list goes on! LOL! Guest guest
Please please be careful . While I totally agree with getting off anti-dees, I must share my personal experience with you with both of these drugs. A week is not long enough to tell if you are okay. I was on a much much lower dose of wellbutrin than you and accidently missed some doses sporadically. Result, fine for a week or so, then WHAMO...black hole depression HELL. Please please please be careful. I felt like I could not stand to live a moment longer. This feeling was HORRIBLE. Wellbutrin leaves the body suddenly and can cause awful awful suddden withdrawal. My doc understood my desire to get off this stuff and supported me. He switched me to Prozac, which he said is much easier to get off as it stays in your system longer. I did this and was able to easily withdraw from Wellbutrin. NOw I am down to only 10mg of Prozac for 3 days, then 1 day off. I will be off it soon. Doing it this way is still fast and safer. You do whatever you want, but I have seen people encouraged to get off their anti-dees suddenly with tragic results. Please take care and I hope this info helps. Jagrati > > Thanks, Bee.
