Guest guest
HBR VIDEOInteresting observations in the workforce Institute blog too .Karthik.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I produce article below. To usher in the new year, we took our video cameras to the streets of Boston and asked managers to share their management resolutions for 2008. After talking with more than 30 managers (on a very cold day in Boston!), we gleaned several themes from their workplace resolutions. Managers want to find a better work/life balance. As you saw in the video, one person is working 16 hour days. So much for exercising, seeing friends, or even having a family. There's no time for balance -- it's all work all the time. To help you think about your work/life balance and rejuvenate your personal energy, consider reading this free, full-length Harvard Business Review article, " Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time. " We know, we know… you don't have time. Our advice: Make the time. It's worth the read. Managers see talent management as a pressing need for 2008. Companies need to pay greater attention to recruitment, employee development, and retention. One individual echoed this is a priority for his firm, and jokingly quipped, " If you have any answers, please email me. " Here's something that might help -- " 'A Players' or 'A Positions'? The Strategic Logic of Workforce Management" is a terrific article from Harvard Business Review that discusses a disciplined approach to talent management. It's free and offered in full-length here.
