Guest guest
Barb, On the allergies, did you rule out gluten, and all preservatives? Also what about molds? Cymbalta can cause headaches. Since this big headache came so soon after starting it, maybe it's that? Or her brain chemistry is just all mixed up from the changes in medications? Or sleep apnea? Yes, that's low oxygen while sleeping. Could she have had a small seizure? Could she have some sort of a tumor? Hopefully the MRI will reveal more. Guest guest
We had food allergy testing done(igg and ige) and it did reveal an egg allergy but that was last year. We had a mold issue in a part of our attic last year that we had remediated and subsequent mold tests have been negative. The big headache could very well have been from the Cymbalta but I think something else is going on since the headaches have been around for months. When she gets out I am going to schedule a sleep study to rule out apnea and low oxygen levels. For now I guess ill just wait for the mri. Thanks!! Barb Re: Other causes of headaches? Guest guest
You know it might be...her cycles are all over the place. How would I be able to tell? Barb Re: Other causes of headaches? Guest guest
Barb, I'd get her breathing checked out first. It's noninvasive and low cost. Could very well be that. The Cymbalta could relax her too much. Read the fine print about Cymbalta on the internet. Some interesting things there. Guest guest
I am pretty petrified of Cymbalta. I read the side effects before she started it but she is in a lot of pain and still on suicide watch at the hospital so for now we will just have to deal with it. Actually today when I visited her she was somewhat wired from it not tired. I definitely am going to get her breathing checked out though especially since she gets bad shocks in her chest along her breastbone. Maybe it is related. Barb Re: Other causes of headaches? Guest guest
Forgive me but I've only seen a few of these messages. You could chart her cycles or a side effect of the birth control pill is it regulates the cycle. Just a thought. T. > > You know it might be...her cycles are all over the place. Guest guest
Hi Barb, My son gets really bad headaches. At one point the doctor suspected that he had an aneurysm. The MRI showed that he has small blood vessels in his brain. I didn't think much about that until our CMT surgeon told me that my son had small blood vessels in his arm and feet from CMT. Have no idea if they are both related to CMT. My guess is that your daughter like my son is sensitive to medication and if a headache is a side effect they get a really bad one. Especially the medications that change brain chemistry.
Guest guest
Hello Barb, Did they check the thyroid? Problems here can cause different other problems, e.g. hormonal cycle problems. Also too much muscle tension (neck/shoulder) could be the cause for headache and this could get worse at night if somebody isn't able to relax or because of apnea. My doctor here in Germany is researching this problem in CMT for a few years now. He is both, Expert for CMT (as neurologist) and a sleep researcher and his research shows that a lot CMT-people have this problem. First sign is snoring and breathing pauses while sleeping. This can be checked very easily especially in a clinic. Maybe you can ask your daughters doctor about it. Best regards,
Guest guest
Cymbalta really made my pectoral spasms worse. CoQ10 made the spasms better, but at an ever escallating dose. I was up to 750mg/day when I quit Cymbalta. O 55 CMT2
Guest guest
, She is not on birth control. Her pediatrician has her try progesterone supplements to regulate her cycles but I then read that progesterone can cause CMT to progress so we stopped it. Her cycles are all over the place. Guest guest
, That is possible but the headaches were present before any medicine was started. Barb Re: Other causes of headaches? Guest guest
Good Morning Barb, Had another thought - has she been checked for TMJ? It can cause headaches. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporomandibular_joint_disorder Gretchen
Guest guest
Barb, I'm sorry your daughter, and you by extension, have been having such a hard time of it. A lot of people have given a lot of good advice, and here's my 2 cents. I sometimes wake with headaches and it could very well be undiagnosed sleep apnea and allergies, but here are a couple things that have helped me: From the time I close up the windows for the winter until I open the place for spring, I sleep with a humidifier running in my bedroom at night. If I don't use it during the winter, I will wake with headaches every day, even though I use saline nasal spray nightly. Sometimes using the saline spray in the morning will help make them go away, which makes me think they're related to the dryness. I rarely have morning headaches in the summer when the humidity is so much higher. In addition, if I go to bed with a headache, even a slight one, and I don't take anything for it, I WILL wake with a killer headache. These days, even if I have been ignoring a mild headache all day, I will take 2 Tylenol before bed and the morning agony is non-existent. Finally, many of my headaches are stress-related, but not just emotional stress. When we get into our busy seasons at work and I am at my desk for 7 hrs straight, doing repetitive motions on the computer, my neck and shoulders get so tight that the pain goes up from my neck into the sides of my face and head, causing intense headaches. My whole head feels like it has been beaten with a bat, including the sinuses. During those times, I take Tylenol at least once a day (which I'd prefer not to take at all), use a microwaveable heat pack over my shoulders and neck and another on my forehead, and see the chiropractor, PT, and massage therapist regularly. I hope this helped, and I wish you luck with the quest to heal your daughter.

Guest guest
If Tylenol gives you a hangover - sort of out of it and foggy for the rest of the day - try Advil. I've found it works just as well and no hangover. L.
Guest guest
, Thank you for the additional information. That does seem to make sense to me since her headaches started around Thanksgiving. Adding it to the list to look into when she comes home. Thanks again! Barb Re: Other causes of headaches? Barb, I'm sorry your daughter, and you by extension, have been having such a hard time of it.
