Guest guest
Terry, For me, my 8 week post op visit was an all day trip to Boston and back and it felt like it was just barely " do-able " . At just under 16 weeks I managed to go off island and drive to a seminar...complete with an overnight on my own. At about 6 months we went on what I consider a " trip " , our summer vacation, complete with a long drive and two weeks away...and though there were some challenges...it was fine most of the time. You are right to note that we all are different.I had no real complications from surgery. What kind of trip are you taking? " " 'What is Pelvic Fixation? Is this common?' " It is fairly common....in English (lol)he's saying that her osteotomy will be followed by posterior segmental instrumentation (pedicle screws) with pelvic fixation (most likely iliac bolts - therefore fixating her spine to her pelvis, providing more stability while the fused spine heals.) Guest guest
Terry, Just let me know...will be waiting to hear how you make out with the date change. The procedure is quite a mouthful...when I first started reading your post I thought you must have taken some tremendous notes! Guest guest
Terry, you mention Dr. LaGrone does the whole shebang in about 11 hours. Sounds like speed-surgery to me. Those of you with staged revisions, didn't they total a lot more than 11 hours? Sharon [ ] surgery > Dear Cam, > > Don't put me on the calendar yet. Guest guest
I'd guess that part of that is the 2 lots of prep, and 2 lots of finish up. Some surgeons are alarmingly fast though - a girl on my forums had anterior fusion T11-L3, and it was all done and dusted in just over 2 hours, which is astonishing. That surgeon does have a reputation for being pretty fast though. titch-- " The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom. " - H. L. Guest guest
Sharon, I think that a one day a/p with Dr Boachie was estimated in the 11 hour time frame when I spoke with him....and I think that sounds close to what folks have had for surgery times...so I think if all goes well, with no surprises, that is typical. I remember SunnyDB (Diane who had a one day a/p with Dr Boachie) was told that if they hit any snags they would turn her one day into a staged surgery...maybe Lorrie knows if that is how they proceed? I do think that 10-12 hours is fairly close to the time limit that they would like to have anyone under anesthesia, and as with ...likliness of too much blood loss in one surguery. You will find people around NEBH that joke about how slow DrRand is in surgery....that is why he gets the surgical suite all day and you will find you are the last to leave the pre-op area on the day of surgery....everyone else is part of the " factory " ...couple a hips or knees a day....a little nerve wracking... I gotta pack...see ya later, Cam
Guest guest
My surgery was planned for one day. Dr. B did estimate to be about 8.5 hours but it turned into 10.5 hours. Guest guest
Dear Terry, I had surgery with Dr. LaGrone one year ago,March 21st.I am doing really well.I gardened yesterday for five hours. I am careful to remember the rules-No bending,no lifting,no twisting.B.L.T.Bacon,Lettuce,Tomato---they told me to remember.I use a dolly to move heavy things and lots of helpful tools. Swimming at least, twice a week.Getting ready for one year check-up,April 11th.Do not have any pain now.Stopped al pain meds after one month.I know how scarey this huge operation can be,but Dr. LaGrone is a great doctor. The hospital and everyone there were also wonderful.Good luck to you.If I can answer any questions from my experience, just let me know.My sister and daughter kept a journal ,each day,and that was a good thing. My operation was 10 hours, sounds similar. Guest guest
Thanks Susie and Margaret. It is alot to deal with at one time, but I can handle it, because I have to. It makes it alot harder when family has to be so harsh about my surgery, its their vacation time and they plan on being away. They have never cared before though, so why should they now. I told them to go, I'll find someone to get me to the hospital for the surgery. I can't deal with the stress from them about it. > > You have a lot to handle at the moment. Guest guest
Thanks . The kidney surgery got postponed till the 29th. My sister has a kidney stone they knew about. But they found a surgeon who will do it with the kidney stone and he will take the stone out too. I'm sure I will wonder what I did to myself, especially being both at the same time. I'm kinda nervous about the surgery thing but at the same time a little excited to be getting it done and being able to do stuff again. > > > > Hi , wow a kidney! Anyway, I hope that goes alright. You're doing both knees at the same time? I wanted to do that but chickened out. I really don't think it could be much worse though. My older cousin had both of hers done at the same time and she said that was the only way to go. I was so nervous the first time, and the second time I just wanted to get it over with asap. It's great, cause now I can walk without a limp if I really want to. They both still hurt, but I've heard they will hurt for up to 9 months or so. It's a lot different and better pain, and you know that at least you're healing.

Prayers of strength, prayers of wisdom for the doctor and his team. I'm so sorry that any of us has to go through this experience. Since, I am a Christian I will take them all to heart and know, my Lord is in control, even if I am not I realize the difference in quitting smoking because you want to and quitting because you have to. Guest guest
Sharon, Mine did go with me to the appointments and he was very much shocked at the x-rays and what the doctor was saying. It seems to have diminished though because now he is more like " so it's surgery, we will just go through it " . He served in Nam and was torn up more than once, so I know, he knows how bad it will be. Maybe, it is his way of being objective. I was just trying to think of someplace on Bridge St where we could meet. Any ideas? At 01:45 PM 4/3/2006, you wrote: Hey, that goes for me too, .
