Guest guest
Dear professionals Pleases find attached the MSDS for CO2 which will be helpful no know about CO2 and storage requirements. I too could not get any legal requirements for storing CO2 bank. However the requirements of storage of compressed gas cylinders applicable to respective regions shall be adopted. When we use CO2 to extinguish fire, after the discharge of CO2 no one should entre the room with out confirming oxygen availability (not only using CO2, other wise also). All occupants of the area should be made aware of CO2 as there is a tendency of people to entre the area due to curiosity after the fire is extinguished. Flooding and leaking: flooding is done intentionally to extinguish the fire. Before activating the system it should be ensured that all are evacuated or at least informed. (Like alarm) When it leaks nobody knows it leaking or not as the gas is odourless and colourless. Keeping a fire extinguisher in the shop floor is not dangerous as it is intact and no tubes, couplings joints etc are used and it is not getting heated up to release the over pressure fusible plug.(I suggest instead of CO2 it is better to have DCP and water type extinguishers in shops) But it is not the scenario of a storage of cylinder bank. Also consider the severity of explosion of cylinder bank inside a room. The well ventilated area: from the MSDS you may see that it says the air to be monitored for oxygen and CO2 Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated, fireproof area, away from flammable materials and corrosive atmospheres. Store away from heat and ignition sources and out of direct sunlight. Do not store near elevators, corridors or loading docks. Do not allow area where cylinders are stored to exceed 52°C (125°F). Ventilation requirements: Mechanical ventilation is satisfactory. Ensure oxygen concentration remains above 19.5% and Carbon Dioxide concentration does not exceed 5000 ppm, Local exhaust at points of emission preferred.
