Guest guest
I meant to post a lot sooner than this, but I have been having a really bad time the last few weeks. My docs all put it down to stress, as I've had a lot of that lately! Not just the medical stuff, but my son and his wife are about to lose their house to foreclosure, and may have to file for bankruptcy. Right now, he's furious with me because we won't help anymore - but we stand to lose about $30,000 on the second mortgage we hold on their house and there just isn't going to be any more right now. I wanted to let everyone know that I had a needle biopsy on the lump in my right breast. The dx was Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia, which is an abnormal growth in the lining of the ducts, and is benign - at least at first. It can eventually change and become malignant, but usually takes 10-15 years. They want to remove now. So, I need to go in for a breast MRI (waiting for good 'ol Blue Cross to get around to approving it! I guess I shouldn't complain, should be glad that I have good insurance, but they sure do know how to increase your stress levels . . .). The surgeon wants the MRI to make sure they're not missing anything. After the surgery, I have to go see an oncologist for a consultation, because ADH also increases your risk for breast cancer. My surgeon and my PCP both tell me that I'll probably have to stop using estrogen, and start taking Tamoxifen (did I spell that right?) I'm a little concerned about the estrogen either way. I sure don't want to increase my cancer risk, but I started it after my hysterectomy, and am not looking forward to dealing with menopause symptoms right now. Anyone here know anything about Tamoxifen? Wondering what side effects it will have, and what effect it might have on my PMR, FMR, and diabetes. And if I'm going to have to worry about interactions with my other meds. I read the posts here and I really shouldn't complain, because at least I've got good insurance and a really supportive family (except for the one son). I'm just so tired of being in pain and being tired all the time. I really do appreciate all the info I've found here. Guest guest
Pat, Sorry you've been having such a rough time. Here is some info on atypical ductal hyperplasia: I just had a needle biopsy done on a spot that looked questionable on my annual mammogram and was told that I have atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH). My doctor mentioned that I might want to consider taking tamoxifen. Would that be the right choice for someone with atypical ductal hyperplasia? http://www.susanlovemd.org/faq/atypia-hyperplasia/atypia_3.html In most women ADH is harmless and will not cause any problems in the future. However, in a few women with ADH, breast cancer can occur at a later date in the same breast or in the other one. Learning about this risk can raise anxiety in women newly diagnosed with ADH, but the risk is small. With regular follow-up, any breast cancer that does develop is likely to be found early. http://www.cancervic.org.au/cancer1/prevent/breasthealth/adh.htm a On Jan 29, 2006, at 8:41 PM, Overell wrote: > I meant to post a lot sooner than this, but I have been having a > really bad time the last few weeks.
