Guest guest
Well, here I go on my soapbox. I was a stay-at-home Mom of 4 children (2 with disabilities) and when I applied for SS was promptly told that those years 'didn't count' to Social Security...only 'paid jobs' give you the points you need to secure SSD. I did receive SSI, but it is a very small amount comparatively. I think it is horrible that the government discounts the very important work of Mothers. There should be another way to calculate credits. After my kids were grown, I worked off & on, depending on my health. I finally accumulated enough points to receive a tiny amount of SSD, which after 2 years, made me eligible to receive Medicare. I wish you well on this difficult journey. I have heard from many folks that hiring a SS attorney really does help the process go more smoothly and quickly. Hugs... Tess
