Guest guest
Dear Wanda, I have not been online much due to some health issues, but I did want to reply. Are you currently on Enbrel? I take Enbrel and Mtx and Plaquinel and Prednisone. The Enbrel is really expensive, even with insurance, but it Really works for me. I have taken it for 2 years, and am just now noticing that the affect wears off a bit towards the day of my shot. How are you doing on Enbrel? I know this isn't the answer to your questions, but just hoping that you can have the good results that I have with Enbrel. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Hi Wanda nice to meet you. I am currently taking Humira and have been on it for about 6 months. Yes the shots do hurt a little, but no more than a bad bee sting. For me, the sting is alot less worse than not taking the meds. No side effects for me besides maybe a headache the next day. Its tough getting started, but once you are in a routine, it gets easier. Here's a tip: Use an ice pack on the area for a good while before you take the shot, it helps me not feel the shot if the skin is numb, ya know? Hope your hubby feels better soon. Guest guest
I started on Humira about a month ago. Yes the shots are painful they burn going on. So the only side effects I have had beside the burning is exhaustion about two days after the shot last for two days with the first injection and a week after I took the second injection. Humira does have a Humira Share program which can give you up too $300 off each month for six months. You rheummy should have the packet to give you so you can sign up. It works like an insurance card. I will be using mine to pick up my co-pay. If you were on the once a week version of Enbrel. The pre-mixed, I have been told that the Humira burns just like that. I never took the pre-mixed Enbrel. I took the twice week that you had to mix. As far as improvement...so far I have not seen any real change. Some improvement in the fatigue...but its hard to tell if that is the drug or the changes in the weather. Guest guest
My Mother has RA and has been taking Humira shots for 10 months now. It had amazing results on her pain levels. Her pain is now very-manageable to non-existant. The swelling in her knuckles, elbows and knees went down significantly. I am not sure if her side effects are from the Humira or merely because she also has diabetes, but she has noticed a different in her bowel habits. Other than that, no noticeable effects. I hope that helps. DEANNA ALLGOOD [ ] HUMIRA Question? Hi everyone, I haven't been online in quite a while due to my husband being ill and having to take care of him and help family members effected by Hurricane Rita. I hope everyone is doing good. Guest guest
Dear Carol, Thank you so much for your reply. I have been on Enbrel for two years now but I am not making the progress my RA doctor wants me to be making. She wants to try me on Humira which I am bit skeptical about. I remember where I was before I began taking Enbrel and I don't want to go backwards if that makes sense. Also, I am nervous about how much I will have to pay for my co-pay. I am waiting for insurance to get back with me and let me know. I have been on Plaqanel, MTX, and prednisone in the past. I have also noticed that the affects of my Enbrel shot wears off a bit towards the day of my shot too. I hope you have great success taking Enbrel. Wanda In a message dated 2/4/2006 8:53:54 P.M. Guest guest
, Thanks for the tip of using an ice pack before giving the shot. I will definitely try that...:=) Also, I read the side effects from the Humira pamphlet my RA doctor gave which are kinda scary. Have you experienced any of these other than the headache you mentioned? My job is very demanding and I can't take off easily which makes me very nervous about getting on Humira. I have been on Enbrel for the past two years and have hardly been ill which is great even though I am not responding to the drug like my doctor would like me to being doing. Guest guest
Dear Toni, Thanks for sharing with me. I took the twice weekly Enbrel shots but I can deal with the pain of the Humira shot ( I think???) if it makes me feel better. I am not familiar with the Humira Share program. If my RA doctor doesn't have any information regarding the Humira Share program do you know how I can obtain the information? I am very worried about how much my co-pay will be on this new drug. Last week all my RA doctor gave me were two pamphlets telling me about Humira. Hopefully you will start seeing great results and feeling better soon. Wanda In a message dated 2/5/2006 12:45:06 A.M. Guest guest
Deanna, Thanks for sharing your mother's experience with me. It sounds like she has had great results which is a wonderful blessing...:=) May I ask if her bowel habits have changed for the better? The reason I ask is because I have irritable bowel syndrome and have to be very selective when eating out and it makes me nervous to change medicine not knowing how my body is going to react to it. I hope your mother continue to have great success. Wanda In a message dated 2/5/2006 1:08:26 P.M. Wanda, I am happy to say that i havent had any serious reactions to the Humira. Maybe sore where i took the shot, but not all day. No serious illnesses to report, only minor stuff like a cold. Like you, i think the meds arent working as well as they should be...maybe time to up my mtx again.

I think it's helping a bit, my doc says it may be too soon to tell. The shots do burn, but it stops within 10-15 seconds after you finish. (Interestingly, the needle doesn't hurt at all, and that's the part I was terrified about.) But the stuff does burn. Take it out of the frig half an hour before, and inject it very slowly, unless you're the type who'd just rather have it over with. i've found a way to not feel the sting... along with taking it out of the fridge a half hr before, use an ice pack on where ever you are going to give the shot. no cloth or towel over it. leave it on there till you cant stand it anymore and then proceed with the shot. I can say for me, it worked wonders! not only did i not feel the needle, i didnt feel most of the shot either! hope the info helps! hugs
