Guest guest
Hello to all! Hello to all the new members, and the old! Gosh, all the problems with meds have been unreal. My heart and prayers to all of you dealing with these giant issues. Leah....great news about Ashton! And Donna, WOW!!!!!! Go Maddie! LOL Margaret, so sorry about Gareth and hope he's doing better soon. and Joan have fun in Florida and post lots of new info. Well, I'll give a short, I hope, update on Seth and then I hope someone has an answer to my problem. Seth has done so well in school. He wasn't ready for the real version of pecs, so they made up a program for him. He can't identify pictures so they took clear acrylic and placed objects that he can recognize into a small disposable plastic cup and covered it with the acrylic. When it dried they peeled off the cup and had the object encased in a little clear disc. Foods like fruit loops, pieces of peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches, fruit snacks etc... They even did pictures of toys and stuff in the acrylic because he responded so well to an *object* instead of a picture. LOL Go figure! LOL Worked wonders and now they show him the picture along with the object when he requests things. He is so content and happy. Oh, Seth's *humping* disappeared as quickly as it arose, thank God! LOL I just found out that on his school papers he is diagnosed with ds/pdd/asd/pica/heart disorder. Sure hopes that helps with the battle I'm heading into. So, on with problem. I have a meeting tomorrow with a few of the *powers that be* regarding Seth aging out of preschool. The teacher, case worker and I all agree that he is not ready to leave this program yet and want to keep him in it another year. Is there any law that states that a disabled child can get a preschool waiver? I know that legally he doesn't have to go to school next year because he won't be six years old until 2002, at which time I intend to homeschool him. Is there any group that I can contact that can maybe *gently*, or not so gently, sway things in my favor? LOL One friend on the cpse board told me it has been done before, but it's not easy and another friend on the board told me to hire a lawyer and I would get what I wanted in a matter of hours. Doesn't sound like a fair game where the best interest of the child is the main concern to me. So, anyone have any suggestions on how I should approach this?
