Guest guest
Leah: Priscilla uses the Love and Learning program. It has tapes, videos, and books that work together to teach sight words. It is a very good program for DS children, we highly recommend it. It does not always break words down in a phonetically correct way, but only a teacher would know :-) Most of the time it is just fine. When was at the Psychiatrist, she did not believe that he could be able to read. We know that he does. We can take any of the books used so far in the Love and Learning program, open to random word pages, and he will read the word correctly almost every time. Because he can do this in a random manner, we are certain that he actually reads the words and has not memorized the book from start to finish, like a nursery rhyme or children's story. I am convinced that the ability to speak is delayed far more than the ability to understand and use language. I think speech is delayed by muscle tone and mouth/tongue coordination issues, and the cognitive skills necessary for language are well developed.
