Guest guest
Hi Donna What a beautiful article Alison wrote about her sister, Maddie! Our ,7, drew a picture of our family in her journal at school & wrote: This is my sister. She has Down syndrome. -just so matter-of-fact & all spelt write, too! is also addicted to Barney & has been since someone introduced him to us when she was 6. Terry, your house is also full of Barney videos if I remember correctly. (Oh, , my memory is going, too!) Barney is really done so well. There's always a lesson to be learned & the music is really great! I like how inclusive it is, too. Have you seen the blind girl & the hearing-impaired boy? I think there was even a child with D.S. on 1 episode. Donna, I agreed with your posts on alcoholism & other conditions being " blamed " for autism. When will these Drs. wake up & smell the coffee? They are so ignorant sometimes. When Steph had leukemia, some of the chemo drugs had diff. side effects with her than they did with " typical " kids. The Drs. told me it was impossible for certain reactions to be happening until I did some research & discovered that indeed the drugs do react differently on kids with D.S.!!! Mind you, this was 7 yrs. ago, but it's just an example of the fact that sometimes parents do know more than the docs. Our haemotologist at he time asked me for a photocopy of the research I had looked up, which I gladly provided. I guess we were fortunate to have a dr. who was able to admit that I knew more about my child than he did! Take care, everyone & bye for now.
