Guest guest
June, I can relate to you there. I have 4 herniated discs, I would have to look again at my MRI's to tell you which exact discs. Along with a half turned tail bone, with minor dengeration of 3 out of the 4 discs. I feel your pain. I was put on percocet (SP?) vicidon, morphine pills, and many more medicine for the pain, I have 2 gallon freezer bags filled with empty pill bottles. For me the medicine worked for about 2 weeks, it quit working and they would put me on something else, and it was a repeating cycle with the medicine, I was in Physical therapy and seeing a chiropractor. I'm off the medicine it was all narcotics and I could not function through daily life with the narcotics so I learned pain management. If I could be of help let me know -- [ ] Verdict is in I finally have answers to why I have suffered so much with low back pain along with what I call continuous cramping at the top of my thighs and down to the back of my knees. The x-rays show scoliosis of the lumbar convex to the left centered at the mid lumbar level. Loss of disc height at L2-3 with severe endplate sclerosis and osteophyte formation. There is more minor degenerative disc disease at L4-5. So, , a, whoever, does this mean I have to learn to live with this agonizing pain? At my age and because of other health problems I am not a candidate for a spinal fusion. At least now I know what is going on and why the pain, for some reason I find I can cope better when I can put a name to it LOL. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply . I have never been to a chiro, could you tell me what he did and if it helped? Did you take a pain management course? Right now I am sitting on a heating pad to see if it helps with the pain. Guest guest
June, Ok, when I was reffered to a chiropractor, at first he did an exam, to point out the areas of most pain, then I was put on a " Tens " unit for 20 minutes. After the " ten " s unit, I was given an adjustment by the doc. OMG it was Heaven after my back got adjusted, although in the beginning the relief was very short, until the pain came back. I did that 3 times a week, for 4 months, then 2 times a week for 3 months. Honestly, I had a lot of progress by going. And he was the one who suggested I get off the narcotics because of it affecting my daily life. And I didn't know what to do without them, because of the tremendous pain, I was in. And mostly he was alievating most of my pain. So I slowly took smaller doeses, and when I thought it was unbearable, I just started to take some deep breaths and focus on something. And slowly day by day, month by month I was off the medicine and when the pain gets bad nowadays , I can take Ibprofen 800mg, and lay down, im usually good in a hour. Don't think it's a miracle story. Im 21 years, It was PURE HELL!!! But at 21 I couldn't deal with it, so I had to do something. It took time an effort to deal with the pain without medicine, it took almost a year to get off the medicine. I had days where I couldn't get out of bed, it was like my back was frozen, I couldn't get out of bed! I was 18 years old for goodness sake!!!! There were days that my back hurt where I literally thought I was going to die from the pain, I would lay in bed and just cry and cry, and basically cry myself to sleep.... Now, When I get under too much stress my back will act up, and I will have problems, if there is a sudden temp, drop overnight, I will have problems when I wake up in the morning. PLease let me know if there is anything else I can do for you Hugs, -- Re: [ ] Verdict is in Thanks for your reply . I have never been to a chiro, could you tell me what he did and if it helped? Guest guest
Hi , it sounds like a good decision. At 10mm and starting at 6 mo you may be finished sooner assuming the band is active. I would say 3-4 mo is more normal. But it is good to set your mind on the longer time, then be happily surprised. What kinds of band will you get? Happy birthday . -christine sydney 22 mo starband grad. > > Today was 's (today is his 6 month birthday) evaluation day. The > orthotist is recommending a helmet. Guest guest
4-5 months seems like a long time especially if you start the process now. My son wore his DOC band 8 weeks starting at 7.5 months and his plagio was 8mm. IS this a passive band or active? Good luck with your decision...if you aren't happy with the head shape or aren't sure, I'd definitely consider banding. lisa 16 month old DOC graduate. > > Today was 's (today is his 6 month birthday) evaluation day. Guest guest
Well the orthotist said that if it was just for his head then he wouldn't worry about it and wouldn't recommend it but because there is such a difference in his ear position that he was recommending it. I spoke with my doctor who didn't know I was doing this, my PT suggested it, and she didn't sound happy. I have to make an appt with her once she gets the paperwork and she wants to look at him before she will write a script for anything. My PT was also shocked that he recommended it yesterday. She wanted to track his progress and didnt' think he would be recommended for one. ______________------ 4-5 months seems like a long time especially if you start the process now.
